There have been a couple BVG threads in the past with mixed reviews. I have had two BVGs come back as trimmed so far. I just got back three BCCG 10s that I broke out of the case. On the two 1976s I got PSA 8s and on a 1979 a PSA 7. I am not sure why the 7 until I get it back. Looked like a 9 to me but I may have been blinded by the BCCG 10.
why did you break it out of the case? how did you do it anyway? maybe you got the lower grade because of damage caused by breaking holder. You can summit cards with other grading holder to PSA and they will grade it before they break it open. They will let you know if you got the same, lower, or higher grade before fitting into their holder. This way, if you are unhappy with the grade given by PSA, you can have them send it back unbroken.
I didn't know BCCG (Beckett's low-rung service) graded as far back as the '70s. At any rate, Beckett states that BCCG 9 is equivalent to PSA 7 in the graded section of its magazine. Thus one might reasonably hope that BCCG 10 would regrade as PSA 8, but I wouldn't count on it. If a BCCG card comes back from PSA as anything but trimmed (or sheet-cut), it's a bonus.
No damage to the cards in cracking them out, there have in fact been several methods mentioned on this board in the past regarding methods used. Some people mentioned using a saw to cut off top, and other methods. I have found hammering an awl into the top of the card where the flip is, cracks the entire case and you can cleaning remove the card. JR is right about what BCCG usually goes across at and I felt if I sent in still in the case, PSA would start with a biased conclusion and wanted to give it a shot raw.
