In Honor Of Wrestlemania

I was going through my 1985 & 1987 Topps WWF cards last night trying to put together a submission. After going through hundreds of 1987 Topps cards I found only one card that I will be submitting

So it makes this card all the more important to my collection. I really enjoy seeing everyones cards so I hope you guys don't mind me posting this one. Damn those Blue borders!

thats a nice card.. i was a big wrestling fan back then in the late 80's.. i've often thought about collecting those cards.. i think they're great..

I thought it was cool that Sly was the guest speaker who inducted The Hulk into the WWE HOF. His Sweet Lips role was a classic part of Rocky III.

I always find it interesting that Wrestling card talk always ends up in the non-sports forum, but rightly so.

I was flipping channels the other night and saw Ric Flair inducting Roddy Piper into some sort of wrestling hall of fame. I watched a couple of others and it was interesting how small some of those ex-wrestlers are now. Im sure there were a lot of steroids going around, but it was a bit relieving to see that the old timers appeared fairly healthy. Regardless of real vs. fake, those guy's bodies were worked and abused hard in the ring.

Was the Macho Man in that set as well?

Randy Savage is in the set, with Elizabeth. I am amazed at how many of the wrestlers that are in the 1985 and 1987 sets have passed away. I am thinking of putting together a set of all the WWE Hall Of Famers autographs. It will be tough but probably not super expensive. It's also interesting to see how much better shape the athletes are in today. Thanks for your responses here is another one of my favorites from the 1985 set. It appears that John Studd (RIP) in carrying Ivan Putski's head.

Rock- You are right about the deaths. Even Miss Elizabeth died of a drug and alcohol overdose. I remember reading that when police were investigating her death, they found over 1,000 vials of anabolic steroids at her house which were the property of Lex Lugar (whom she was either married or living with at the time). I believe he was arrested for that. Pretty tragic.

Seeing Putski in a headlock stirred up some vintage wrestling brain cells. Between the heyday of Bruno Sanmartino and the arrival of The Hulk, "Superstar" Billy Graham was probably the most recognized champ. Here he is with the Governor of California. Some of these dudes from the "old days" of wrestling were equal physical specimins compared to today's atheletes.
