yeah it's kinda lame that an 8 would sell for less than a 7, but it happens. Maybe it's because more people are looking to for the PSA 7. Other factors could be how the seller lists the auction, when they list it, etc. But the so-called Ebay "market" is about as reliable as any other market!! It's not!!!!!

These auctions ended minutes apart and I was the seller. The PSA 8 had the pic blown up but my scanner sucks, so I figured I'd be better off with a smaller view. Guess I was right.

that's odd. the blown up pic, higher graded and more centered card goes for 10 dollars less.

I have had exact same items ending less than a minute apart before one will have 10 to 15 bids and be way above the starting bid the other will not even get a bid. I just amazes me what I see this occur.

My reasoning is that they had to have seen both auctions ending soon if they were looking at the listings, and both auctions would have come up in searches unless PSA 7 or PSA 8 was typed. I really don't care because I got what I should have out of the cards, but it doesn't make any damn sense sometimes.

Bargain-basement buys like that are why many people are addicted to eBay. They live for the wins where they pay a small fraction of what their local card shop wants for the card.

Of course, the one in the card shop has been sitting there for 3 years because hardly anyone buys vintage at card shops any more.

I buy at card shops, but it's usually just to go out and do something on a saturday. The prices are too high at shops, as we all know. However, I still think it's better to be able to see the entire set in person vs ebay. For single cards though, ebay is probably better. The scan of a card, coupled with the sellers feedback, usually means the card is close to the condition being claimed in my experience.

There aren't that many stores in LA that have any vintage left now anyways. Some mega buyer has been buying up at least $10,000 worth of cards a month!! That guy has been pissing me off! oh well.

My guess is, the bidders on the 7 probably missed the chance to bid on the eight and couldn't bear the thought of missing the 7 as well so they bid it up.

I picked up these two cards in an LA store - 40 bucks for both. They were raw at the time. They just came back from PSA and I'm very pleased. There are finds out there, anywhere, if you're willing to look:

The Fairly card is mylared into the holder; I kind of wish that they had been a little more careful putting it in.

I typically do an advanced search by year grade (e.g., 1961 psa 8), it's easier for me to target that way.

I've always liked the guy, I've known him for over 20 years -
back to the days when he was a kid working at Ken's store on Wilshire.
I've found him to be fair and reasonable on anything he actually wants to sell.

porky's??? That guy really tries to oversell his stuff. But I would too if I depended on a hard to park at shop on Magnolia for my living.

I like Matt, he's a good guy, talks too much sometimes though. He has a good selection of vintage, but he often wants too much, especially for stuff he "finds" on the loft or 2nd floor.

What was/is book on the cards? You said you paid $40 for each right?

aww sounds like a good deal, but I don't really know much about that year. I recall an article about it in SMR, but that's about it. They are pretty nice looking.

Now you have me thinking I should go check out old Beverly Hills this weekend for some football cards!!

Bob, thanks. Like I've said, the pursuit of '62 Bells is a leisurely one for me, since I already have the set raw. I had decided to build a '62 set that would more closely match the quality of my raw '60 and '61 sets, and it's a long life....
