__Williamsburg Coin Show REPORT__

WILLIAMSBURG VIRGINIA this past weekend:

It was a Fri-Sat-Sun show here, and the weather this weekend on the east coast was less than desirable. I did a quick touch-n-go on friday, skipped saturday, and spent a few hours sunday. About 12-15 dealers in a HotelBallroom.

As many know, my tastes are for the unusual and I value nice items at good prices instead of looking for specific items.

I found the Paper Money scarce, and picked up three 'Obsoletes' from the 1850's that I didn't have. Two for $40 and one for $50. Nothing affordable Large Type could be found.

The Lightside material was well represented by the 12-15 dealers. Plus, there were three other shows within reasonable driving distance the same weekend. It seemed like anything with a rare date (09-SVDB) was in Very High demand.

I also picked up two raw Colonials (a Mass and a New Jersey) that were affordable $30-35 each. Not darkside, not really light side, hmmm.. Shaded side?

The darkside material was very thin, and what was available seemed to be a little high for me. I saw a Conder token (didn't really grab me) and since it was $35 I decided not to buy something when I have no idea what it should go for. Plus, this dealer's other material was high-priced so I would guess it was a $15 to $20 item normally.

I DID find one Darkside piece. Although I like Ancients (only found Junk Roman) and hammered Gold, this piece was yelling BUY ME and since it was only $100 I couldn't let it slip. Sorry - no the best picture, but the Album Toning is fantastic.

Pictures below. Comments?

Overall opinion: Small First Time show (with other better shows competing), but not Bad.
Market still appears quite STRONG with the recent price dip in Gold having minimal (if any) impact. High end material DOWN RIGHT RARE.

Tilt your head LEFT to see parts of the undertype coin. See the 'F' on the left side? Mexico 8R?
