Will The 1909 VDB Double Die Be The Last Coin EVER Added To The Lincoln 09-58 w/Variety Registry Set

Anyone know what will be the next one added to ANY of the Lincoln registry sets?

    I've always thought that the 25S/S should be a part of the set because the S/S is very clear. PCGS still doesn't even recognize it, though, or bother to indicate it on its holder.

    I believe the 1909 Dbl Die should be the next added because of 1st year of issue.

    centmaster - I own a 1925 s/s in a PCGS ms 65 red holder.They will recognize it but put it in a mint error holder.

    Merz - I have never seen a 1909 double die.Have you and in what grade?

    Cherrypickers' lists a fs-012 and fs-12.1 for the 1909 VDB. Not very dramatic but visable on the date and liberty.

    PCGS only slabs the FS-012 (Breen 2053) as the one that can go into the registry set (with PCGS coin #'s 82423 - "BN", 82424 - "RB", or 82425 - "RD").
    If you want them to recognize the FS-012.1 then you must send it to them to be graded under the mint error service. If they then slab that one it will have the coin number E2423, E2424, or E2425 for "error" 1909 VDB (BN, RB, or RD respectively) with the "E" in front designating it as a "mint error" of the 1909 VDB.

    I recently purchased one for $91.00 on ebay. It is a 1909 VDB ANACS MS64 RB FS 12.1. Can't wait to see it in hand. image

    That's about market for what you got but that one IS NOT the one that currently goes into the PCGS registry set. image

    Sorry to revive this thread, but I thought of a potential variety over the weekend - what do you think of the 1956-D RPM#8 as a potential registry coin? I've seen a bunch of them in high grades in ANACS holders, in fact there's a 66RD (not mine) on eBay as I type. It's certainly more dramatic and more available than the '25-S/S others suggested.

    On a related subject, do you think the 1980 DDO will ever become a part of the memorial w/varieties registry set? I have two in for grading right now under the Mint Error service. It is at least as dramatic as the 1971 DDO, and harder to locate.

    IMHO, I think the 1980 DDO is a front runner as the next memorial to be added to the variety set (after the 98, 99, & '00 Wide AM's of course). Problem is, it has to get added to the pop report first. It still boggles my mind why PCGS takes such a completely entrenched position w/respect to NOT reporting the pops for ALL coins it grades, unlike it's biggest competitors - NGC (except true errors) & ANACS.

    I also think the 95-D DDO & the 97 DDO & the 80-D/S are next most probables after the 1980. It will be a GREAT while longer before any ULTRA RARITIES like the 92-D Close AM and the 94 DDR ever get added as the pops are EXTREMELY low. image

    Speaking of the 1998, 1999, and 2000 Wide AM...I see a rapid (well maybe 6 months to a year) progression in other registry sets from when PCGS first recognizes the variety to when it is added to the variety registry set for that series. Isn't it time that these three become registry required in the Memorial variety set? At the same time, the weights could use a serious revamp...for instance; is the 1995 DDO really worthy of twice the weight of any of the 1961-1963 regular issues?
