  • These kinds of coins are hard to photograph but I think I have a technique down. As I've mentioned before I have no elaborate photo contraptions, just a desk lamp, my floor and white peices of paper. I aim the lamp at the piece of paper and reflect its luminance onto the coin. I take the photo of the coin at 3x optical zoom with the macro on, which means I take the photo from a distance. Doing this may make the image a little smaller and there's a greater risk for motion blur but there is a lessened optical distrotion which helps in post production.

    Once I have my images I imported them into photoshop where I lightened the matte sections and use a filter mask to keep the details in the reverse cameos.

    It's as easy as that!

    Ah Ha! Always wondered how you did that... these are difficult coins to grasp the detail on even with the coin in hand.
