These kinds of coins are hard to photograph but I think I have a technique down. As I've mentioned before I have no elaborate photo contraptions, just a desk lamp, my floor and white peices of paper. I aim the lamp at the piece of paper and reflect its luminance onto the coin. I take the photo of the coin at 3x optical zoom with the macro on, which means I take the photo from a distance. Doing this may make the image a little smaller and there's a greater risk for motion blur but there is a lessened optical distrotion which helps in post production.
Once I have my images I imported them into photoshop where I lightened the matte sections and use a filter mask to keep the details in the reverse cameos.
