From the USpatterns.com website. Only 2 known examples in gold. IMHO, if there ever comes one up for auction again, it will sure bring over $250000. Still pretty cheap I think.

    The coin traded hands about a year and a half ago. 250K would have been pretty cheap, but the buyer was not that lucky.

    The new edited Judd book estimates this coin in PR 65 to be $350K; a PCGS PR64 sold for $210K in 1990.

    What did one sell for recently , if you don't mind my asking ?

    a PCGS PR64 sold for $210K in 1990. What did one sell for recently , if you don't mind my asking ?

    The PR64 is now a PR66. It's the only one in private hands.

    Why were none of these every minted?
    They are gorgeous!
    Same question applies to the Morgan halves, quarters & dimes...

    Was Barber behind this? His designs were not even circulating at the time.
    Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    I ain.t crazy, and I love the coin.

    I have both of the "Morgan dimes" in copper, and they are among the prizes in my collection. It's the lucky man (or gal) that can boast of such treasures. We don't really own 'em, but are just temporary custodians of these little pieces of history!
