What the heck - UPDATE

is going on here. The pictured item does resemble Krause No. Pn6, but the Krause picture isn't much clearer than the posted one, and I don't have any better photo in my resources. The picture in the JNDA Pattern listings appears to be a rather crude drawing.
19th Century 3rd Ed. puts a $2,500 value on the item and the JNDA 2004 catalog gives a range of ¥400-900,000 (~$3,800-8,500).
The high bidder hasn't bought anything since last September, and before that his last activity was in the fall of 2001; the underbidder buys from a lot of the same folks I do, and probably is reasonably knowledgeable; and the one who cancelled his bid is a very knowledgeable bargain hunter who frequently bids against me, but usually drops out when any item price gets anywhere near JNDA catalog.
If high bidder is a shill, he must have bid as a secret reserve, since he bid after the underbidder's first shot, and then the underbidder wouldn't go high enough to pass him.

Wow bidding is up to over $2,500 already with 3 hours to go. Since this is a new Ebay user I would not bid, too risky.
Come on over ... to The Dark Side!
