2003 Playoff Contenders FB - Question

I know that the rookie auto's have both blue and black ink. But where can I find out the specific print runs of each ink? I am unsure of which are the 'rare inks.'

    What do you mean?

I mean the basic rookies from the 2003 set. They were all autographed, some had different print runs, for whatever reason. Then ontop of that both blue and black ink were used. I know that the... Charles Rogers Blue Ink Auto is SP/16, If I recall correctly.

I found an eBay listing where a guy was selling the whole 03' set and he had marked down what rare ones he had. But I can't find that now... it was onlt liek two days ago I saw it.

Well there are also Rookie of the Year Autos. Beckett online only list the "number" of cards auto'd by that player. They do not say Blue or Black.

    For example:
    2003 Playoff Contenders 187 Michael Haynes AU/999 RC $7.50 $15.00
    2003 Playoff Contenders 188 Ty Warren AU/999 RC $12.50 $25.00
    2003 Playoff Contenders 189 Nick Barnett EXCH $20.00 $40.00
    2003 Playoff Contenders 190 Troy Polamalu AU/989 RC $10.00 $25.00
    2003 Playoff Contenders 191 Eric Parker AU/589 RC $10.00 $20.00
    2003 Playoff Contenders 192 Justin Griffith AU/589 RC $10.00 $20.00
    2003 Playoff Contenders 193 David Tyree AU/599 RC $10.00 $20.00

Maybe the Blues are 589 and the Blacks are 999 or vice versa?

    EDIT WOOT 1K post.

    From what I understand...

2003 Playoff Contenders 190 Troy Polamalu AU/989 RC

You had that card listed, in your example. I believe that a certain amount of the 989, listed, is blue and black ink.

Looks like the Blacks are #'d to 999. Im just going by what Beckett Online says..... There is a "Black" auto'd on Ebay #'d to 999. So I just "guessed". Might want to Email Playoff.

all cards are #'d out of the same #, ie 989 for Polamalu. but then some of those are signed in black marker and some blue. for instance say Polamalu signed the first 150 in black and the rest (839) in blue. there is a list of how many black/blue somewhere.

I find that hard to believe "unless" Playoff did it that way.... So Playoff would be the ones to check with. If the athlete just "changed" pens I dont think Playoff would have went through the trouble of checking and counting each one. But then again.............

I wouldn't pay any premium for the "rarer" inks though. All it takes is a dab of rubbing alcohol to erase the original sig and then a blue or black marker to change it to the "rare" ink.
