What grade and the price, according to Krause would you think?

  • Coins of this type are very hard to grade from pictures as the design is somewhat flat. But the coin looks decent. I would carefully grade it XF (or good VF by Scandinavian standards). That would give it a cat value of $20 (2003). But the coin could actually be anything from at good Fine to About Uncirculated, so let's hear some more opinions!

Very nice lion, and I would guess from the scan that it is XF-AU by ANA standards
  • It's not really possibly to tell from the picture since not enough detail of the crowns and the lion's mane are visible. Are there two crossing scratches in the upper left field? If so, that will seriously affect value.

A grade is an inadequate report of an inaccurate judgement by a biased and variable judge of the extent to which a coin corresponds to an undefinable level of an unattainable state of preservation. - Never tell me that grading is science.
  • Thanks, Theboz! image

Yes, Auto, you are right, these two scratches are really exist, but all the details are visible in a very well way. I still think , that I can grade it as XF (see also what MadMuffin said) but any other opinions are very welcome! image

  • Hello shipcoin!

I was just looking in my newest Scandinavian "Siegs Møntkatalog"

The coin is listed under number KM 381

    EF: 300 Danish Crown (about 31 $)
    VF: 160 Danish Crown (about 19 $)

Best wishes from a collector from Germany

Scandinavian and US coins are my pleasure!
  • Thank you very much, Eric, but are you sure we are speaking about the same coin?

I meant KM #373 and not KM # 381 , which has the same lion at obverse (reverse?) but has another reverce (obverse?)

Anyway, thanks for your help and interesting to know that Scandinawian catalogue gives the prices for their own coins, that cost about x2 (!) more than Krause prices image

And... Welcome to the Forum --Eric, nice to see you posting firstly in my thread! imageimageimageimage

    Cleaned XF with scratches.

    Net - VF in value.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?
  • Hello!

    Sorry for my mistake!

The prices I wrote are for the right coin KM 373, the other one is the next 25 Øre coin (KM381)

The katalog is listed by the coin face value and the 381 is the next 25 Øre issued coin.

    Best wishes

    Eric
