Your lowest mintage

Hi all,

I'm curious as to what your lowest mintage circulation coin is. Note that this excludes commems, or proofs. image

The reason I ask is that my latest acquisition is a Russian 25 Kopeks from 1876 with a mintage of only 40,000 pieces image

Also, feel free to bash me if that has been discussed before. And, point me to that thread image

I've never seen a thread on this topic.

Off the top of my head, I'd say the 1939 1 rappen from Switzerland. I believe the mintage was only 10,000, but it could be 100,000. Anyway, it's a rare WWII issue.

  • South Africa 1923 1/2d (circ. strike) mintage 12,000, still afordable at only $100 in unc says Krause. image

I have an 1823 Halfcrown with the first reverse. Grades Fine with no problems. Currency piece and Spinks reckon about 15 exist. It's not a minor variety or anything. The reverse is totally different. Spink 3807. Just over 2 million 1823 halfcrowns were minted.

One of these went for £666 the other day at DNW - Fine with some nasty edge knocks.

  • My lowest mintage would be the 1993 500 dinara of Yugoslavia, but that was never released for circulation, and reportedly all but 1,000 were melted.

I have several Cats that are below 1000 mintage, some of the BBL that I have put up here in the last week are also very low,,,,, The full hair Maja is supposed to be 150 and my 1978 Macau 100 Patacas Formula Race car with advertising is a mintage of 150. None of these qualify I'm afraid as they are proof.

This one has been bothering me for quite a long time.

Krause says 10,000, that's for sure. image

1896 Brazil 20,000 reis, mintage 7,043. I also have an 1897, with a mintage of 11,000. Krause says 550.00 for both in XF and 1000.00 in Unc., but you can get them for a little less -- if you can find one. image
  • I'd guess it's an error but Krause has consistently listed that the 1965 5 Dirham, KM-57, had a mintage of 1,700. I assume it should be 1.700 (million) as they aren't too hard to come across.

I've had some down in the 5,000 - 6,000 range.

Not sure of the mintage on the patterns I have, but they're proofs, anyway.

Well i would have to say that the lowest mintage probably goes to my Shaftesbury mint king Stephen penny moneyor, Richard, only a few hundred must still exist, of that moneyor from that mint with that style.

More recently i suppose the King Charles II 1676/5 sixpence, pretty rare dae, not sure on the mintages though, cos i don't think figures per denomination exist for this period.

Let alone the amount that probably got melted over the years.

I doubt it's really my rarest and in all probability Krause has the mintage wrong but
I still horde all the 1944 Egyptian 2 P I can find. The mintage is listed at 32,000.

It is possible the mintage is correct since this one isn't seen in poundage often.

Seems I'm lagging behind a long way on this topic compared to some of you. Maybe I should get myself a 50 Drachmai from 1876. A generous giveaway would be most appreciated image

I have a pair of Canadian $20 coins from the Land, Rail and Sea series at 15,000.
Lowest mintage however is a liteside piece, 1936-D Boone Comm. Half Dollar at 5,000.

If I was counting proofs, my lowest mintage coin is a proof 1839 UK penny (300 made).

The other two prizes are my 1869 UK penny and 1850 shilling. The mintage figures on these do not come close to the actual count of these coins made with this date. For example, estimates for actual production of the 1869 penny are 25% or less of the official figure.

Everyone has already seen the pictures by now.

I have the Swiss 1939 rap.
Have only seen one offered when I was still getting lists. David Harrison had the piece. Was thrilled to obtain it.
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?

I've got an 1858 2K Reis from Brazil.. my friend at the flea market gave it to me for my birthday image Anyway, the mintage is 22K, but the 59's mintage was nearly twice that and is worth multiples more!! (not that I'm complaining, just not sure why that is)

I'm sure I've got something ugly from some country no one cares about with a lower mintage, just can't remember what it is...

I remember there was on ebay a sack of 1000 minor denom coins from some Caribbean country which were all unc and of a key date.. the sack was something like 20% of that year's run image (as I recall, someone here was planning on buying it but I don't think they did)
