I don't know about anyone else but have you noticed the ever growing numbers of copies and repros being sold on ebay? And what really gets me is the amount of money some of these are going forimage I don't understand for a few more dollars you can pick up an original coin! So why do people break their necks bidding on copies????image

    I've noticed a lot of repros also. Especially for Brit coins like the 1797 1d and Gothic Crown. I find them very annoying when 'copy' or 'reproduction' isn't in the title.

    That's the idea. Most of these sellers are trying to con unsuspecting buyers into paying real coin prices for fakes. imageimageimage

    I was tempted to go for the "1945 silver 3d" that was offered recently, but have decided like most that there is no joy in collecting fakes, even if they are "legal" ones.

    I'm ambivalent towards copies & reproductions. They don't bother me, and I own a few. Generally, the original manufacturers weren't making them with ill intent. The unfortunate truth is that they're then often resold in an attempt to take advantage of an unsuspecting buyer.

    Counterfeits actually made to fool collectors I find more worthy of close attention and study.

    In either case, education is key.
    Collector of Fractional Gold; gold tokens from Canada, California, Alaska & other states; gold so-called dollars, and other oddball stuff.
