French mint sets continue to climb

I have about 8 years of the French Mint sets and have been trying to acquire more. Late last year I was able to get most in the $30ish dollar range. This year I'm losing at $40 and up!

Have the prices changed at all in the 2004 Krause? -mine's a 2003.

    Nope. The prices in the 2004 Krause are completely out of touch with reality. I still dream of walking into a coin shop and being able to buy some at those prices. image

    I've only paid what I consider big money for one of the sets that I own- the others were in the $25 to $40 range.

    France-mint Set 1967 (8) FDC 150.00

    This particular set had a mintage of only around 2100 pieces If I'm not mistaken. I wonder what it would sell for now?

    It's incredible how much of this sort of thing is starting to sell at retail prices. Even
    the idea of catalog prices seems astounding and now I have to get used to the idea
    that catalog is in many cases too low and prices can be marked up further yet for
    sale to collectors on e-bay.

    Anytime I walk into a coin shop anymore it seems they have a retail customer or two
    and someone is in back selling everything that isn't nailed down to e-bay buyers.

    The 1970 seems to be lagging a bit though. I've got a pair of '64s sitting on my desk too, but I haven't gotten around to doing anything with them because they are kind of gooey. 30 year old PVC is not fun...... image

    Civitas, it's funny that my 64 set came in the original PVC without a mark on them, just some very nice iridescent toning in a half moon.
    I imagine existing environmental conditions would speed up or slow down the effects of PVC.

    Our Dead King just got an unbelievable price for a French set (a proof set, I think).

    Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
