How often do you see this

I don't know if this has been discussed before but the theme of this thread should be easy to have fun with by looking at these examples.

They did the same thing with the '68 and '69 Larry Haney (albeit the '69 was a reversed negative).

Yeah! The 54s, 55s, and 56s are littered with these duplicate head shots! Ted Williams has the same photo in every set!

Rob, thanks putting those Yaz cards up for me!

The 69 set borrowed heavily from 68--just sitting here, I can think of Yaz, Aaron and Carew as well as Banks. One reason I always thought the 69 set was very unimaginative.

I'd also ask if anyone can beat rbeaton -- there seem to be alot of images that are recycled from one year to the next...but reusing the '65 image for the '68 card? Can anyone beat that delta?

Even though they're not the exact same picture,
I've always thought it was uncanny how much the
'66 & '68 Topps Mantles looked alike. Even down
to the folds in his blue longsleeve undershirt.

The use of the same pose for more then 1 yr also gives us the player on a new team but wearing his previous teams colors. and also gives us those cards where the previous teams logo is airbrushed out.
    Good for you.

Lots of double Rookie cards with the cap brushed black(?68s?),but that's another chapter further into another part of the history.

    Cool examples.

    Feel free to continue.

    Thanks!

    Mantlefan-
Very cool example. I know nothing about 1962 Topps- but is one of the versions more scare than the other?

I believe that the same photo was used for all of Lou Piniella's rookie cards. He's the only one off the top of my head that I can think of that has three rookie cards.

Pitching pose.... 12 PSA 8..... Portrait pose..... 14 PSA 8. mrc32....Several of the cards in the 1962 Topps BB set second series came in 2 different poses..not sure why. Also, some of the cards have a distinct green tint, which is recognized as a variation.

Frank, does Reniff also have a green tint variety?

Hi Win...nope, although my cards look like the sky's kinda green, PSA lists no green tints of this card.

That's amazing that Fleer and Topps used the same picture. Someone should have got fired over that one.

1960 and 61 Koufax - The black and white smaller picture on the 1960 card is the same picture that is used on the 1961 Koufax. The black and white picture on the 1960 Berra goes all the way back to the 1950 Bowman.

My recollection is the entire 2nd series (111-198) could be found with green tints. I remember buying them in '62 and not being happy with a card until I got it with standard coloring.

Talk about major dissin': Jim Coates, 1961 and 1962, same pose, both cards issued late in the year in the high numbers. His '59 card, although a head shot, was also in the high series, the small picture in the 1960 card was the same as '61 and '62, and after '63, he didn't have another card until '67 which was his last. Did Topps run him out of baseball?

Interesting topic... In 1956 Topps used at least 5 of the pictures from the 1955 Bowman football set. The duplicated pix are: Alan Ameche #8/12 (Bowman/Topps), Bobby Dillon #122/103, Vic Janowicz #133/13, Bert Rechichar #20/84 and Bobby Watkins #58/95.

I have been meaning to start a thread like this before but have been too lazy/busy to scan my cards. I collect Red Sox team cards and have noticed that they do a lot of recycling when it come to the team pictures.

    Here is the breakdown:

    1960, 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964 all use the same photo!
1965, 1966 and 1967 use the same photo.
    1972 and 1973 as well.

After that they actually used current photos on the team cards.

Interesting, huh? 5 years with the exact same photo! This has got to be a record for consecutive years with the same photo.
I wonder if anyone can verify the same recycling with other teams.
