My personal opinion is that the Hall of Fame is getting a little to watered down as it is. The Hall of Fame should be for the absolute best. If a pinch hitter was Hall of Fame material, he would be an everyday starter. That is just my 2 cents.
What about DH? A guy like Paul Molitor extended his career by several years by becoming a full time DH. Does this add to the watered down theory? I think it does. There were great players in the 40's and 50's that retired when injuries or age hurt their defensive skills. If they could have instead become the DH, it may have added several more years of great stats to their offensive records. Jim

Add Del Unser, Dave Hansen, and Jose Morales to the list. I'm actually going to be putting together a registry set for Mota. I've made a request for his master set to be listed.
Not to change the subject but since we are talking about the Hall of Fame, I had this discussion with one of my friends. If Jose Canseco comes back and ends his career with say 560 Home Runs, should he get in? First 40/40 man, 500 HR Club, dominated baseball for a couple years, world series champ, plus 3 straight world series appearances. What do you think?
For Pinch hitters one of the very best was Jerry Lynch. I think he ranked just behind Smokey Burgess until the last decade or so. Also , doesn't Lenny Harris now own the all time pinch hits record?
