As an even newer newbie, I was pleasantly surprized by how easy it was..... The hardest part was getting the file to be 100 x 100 and under 10kb!!! Just go to your profile and at the botton is the "load your own icon" area. If the file is on your 'puter, browse to it and click update profiel when you are done. Almost too simple.....I was pleased to see I got it right!

Trying to finish a 1958 Parkhurst set. AND a 1959 Parkhurst set....Just in case you care.....
Damn, I'm proud of myself. Not only did I get the icon up right, I stumbled upon my private messages! Now I can answer people from three months ago and explain why I didn't respond then.
Thank you... but that button is not available to me... I am on a Mac, and I have tried IE and safari... no luck with that upload button in either one. Oh well, guess HAL will stay!
Conforti - I found my icon on a website, saved it to my computer in a .gif file (it has to be gif or .jpg I believe), then clicked "browse" under my icon in my profile, found it on my computer, then bam! it was updated. But he's right, getting it under 100 is tough. It wouldn't take the first bluejay I found.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
<check watch> Hmm...still 3/15/04 to me... and I'm on the EAST coast... which means the 11:00 PM it is here, is 8 PM over there with CU...
Of course CU lives in an alternative reality where they receive a package of my cards on 2/17 but don't acknowledge acceptance until 2/28 and receive a second package on 3/3 but still ahven't acknowledged acceptance of THAT...

Very frustrating, I had the button once when I first got home, uploaded a pic but evidently it didn't take because its not in the icon list. Went back to my profile numerous times to try & redo it-no button. I don't understand why this is even a problem.......any other message board I've ever posted on, you were able to upload or change your icon at any time. The process is automated on those boards , why don't we get that feature here? Ahhhhh just frustrated </rant>
so..what is it - once a month is load your own icon day?

Upload icon day appears to be on the 15th of each month. On those days, I'm able to use the upload process to change my current icon, but no icon that I've uploaded ever appears in the master icon list. How does one get your uploaded icons to show up there?
