I'm still waiting...I'm not even sure I will bid this go around as I need to save $$ for my upcoming Germany venture where, I am sure, I will be able to see pieces first hand before purchase or bidding. The most import information this auction will reveal is the prices realized which will finally give me a current baseline value on a large lot of medals and patterns. Something like this hasn't occured with a Goetz auction since 1983 and as you would surmise, the prices are very outdated.
Scott I agree we deffinately need a new baseline for all these pieces. I am going to bid on 2 lots. K79 Austria 1 Krone Pattern, 1914 & K78C 25 Pfennig 1908.
That's a crock...they want you to mail in bids on coins and medals you cannot view....I'm sorry but that is too large of a leap of faith for me. That is even more assinine than having a catalog full of stock photo's and expect people to bid....
You can go to New York to view the lots starting Feb 17th. Stock photos? Not all lots have images but those that do are of the actual lots. No stock photos.
I wasn't saying Stacks was using stock photos...other auction houses do but both practices are worthless to people who can't pre-visit the lots. God, in this day and age you'd think they would go 100% digital to reach the largest audience possible.

There are some lots I want to bid on, but I don't think I'll be able to fly to New York to check them out ahead of time.

Anyone ever bid in one of these mail bid auctions before? How do I register with Stack's to bid? Or can I just mail in the bid sheet?
