Thanks in part to this thread ... hopefully others start getting these graded. Flood the market with 8 OC's even, I just want to see more so I can finally land one
Lafayette will win every card he wants. It's almost better to let him get the cards that he wants. The prices he pays seem to directly lead to more of the same cards showing up on Ebay, and then we can get the same card at a fraction of the price.
Collecting all graded Alan Trammell graded cards as well as graded 1984 Topps, Donruss, and Fleer Detroit Tigers
I can't even begin to fathom how much money that guy has thrown away. If history repeats itself again he'll be dumping all his 76s in six months. Give the guy a Ritalin pill.

...and when he does we will be here to help him! Kind of like the quote from the founder of Heniz ketchup who had a favorite saying of " it is the ketchup left on the plate after the meal that makes me money."
"Why is it that Superman could stop a bullet with his chest, yet he ducked when somebody threw a chair at him?" " " Go ahead and get your fancy barely visible cell phones that get the internet, play DVD's, and can speak 5 languages. As for me and my Atari cell phone it works, it weighs 7 pounds, it is 14 inches long, and it looks like I could call in an airstrike from a remote desert it is so large!"
What I want to see is redsoxjeff and lafayette43 in a race to see which one has to sleep on the couch for the rest of their married lives first. Then we could buy their set break-ups of "high-end 9's from my personal collection" six months later--or weeks in some cases....of course we know they all came from sirius and other eBay vendors but it's nice they can humor themselves. Who do you guys think would blink first?
What the hell is going on with that '76 Luzinski? I know nothing about this set, but is this the normal betting pattern for low pop 9's from the '76 issue?
methinks you better send Lafayette43 a Christmas card next year.
Please don't be discouraged from bidding. My retirement is counting on it. Seriously, that card is awefully tough. Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to be first in line when a dealer from whom I had purchased many sets from broke a '76 vending case. He ranked each card from best to worst and built as many sets as the case would make. Since I was first in line, I got the best set! He was a goldmine for me. I bought 5 1975 vending sets, a 1970 NM-MT set, a 1972 NM-MT set, a NM-MT/MINT 1973 partial set and single raw cards of '72 Seaver, '72 Hunter, '73 Mays, '73 Aaron, '73 Brock, '73 Seaver and '74 Winfield that all ended up in PSA 9 holders as well as a ton of cards that graded 8. He later wised up and learned about professional grading and no longer sells high grade cards raw.
It will be interesting to see what the Alomar 9 sells for. The last one went for $400+. That will be a good test for the strength of the high grade/low pop '76 market.
<< <i>I was suprised to see Lafayatte back in the 76's. It does not seem like you can outbid him unless you are totally insane Scott >>
That could be a strategy. Hit the first auctions with a heavy stick and scare everyone away. Then in subsequent auctions, be the first to bid and nobody else bothers bidding, resulting in relative bargains. I don't know if this strategy would be successful but it would be an interesting concept.
I've run into this type of bidding on low pop 1969 commons. In some cases, I was able to purchase the card in a later auction for much less. In other cases I'm still waiting for another card to be listed. Those I may end up paying more for. An example is the Ed Charles card (there's a PSA 8 in auction right now). A few years ago, the card appeared on eBay several times for a few months and they went fairly cheap (~$40). Since then, very few have surfaced and the last one went for $200+.
I really don't know what Lafayatte is thinking. I butted heads with him on the 76's a while ago and he would just bid crazy amounts to win. Then he must have gotten bored with the 76's and moved on to something else.
I am working on PSA baseball sets in 8 or better from 1973 thru 1976. Also Mike Schmidt & Pete Rose sets.
well the rick miller is probably going to close at the $260 mark? the MANNING is pushing 200. the manning seems to be a tough card for me to get nice.it usually comes with small boarders which tells me that it was cut short at the factory?there are a few cards from the set that have this problem and the one that i just can't seem to find with nicely sized boarders is #44 doug rader?good luck. the LUZINSKI will probably close at around 300. the following will be hit or miss but am guessing there will be snipers trying to snipe the MADLOCK which is a tough card and this one seems decent to my eye? the ALOMAR will close in the low 100's i'm guessing? i haven't seen eabayeta(sp?) yet and maybe he has learned from the last alomar that sniping is the way to go?the PINIELLA just doesnt seem to be a tough card for me i have seen a few nice raw examples but the backs were the biggest problem for me. the SIMMONSHELMSHENDRICK and http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2784904088&category=55925">TORRE are all tough cards but these are 8's so i am not really sure why they are going for so much. i bought the roy smalley rookie which is just as tough in 8 as the above 8's for 5.99 so i think its a case of i got to have this card now for my registered set? i did leave one out of the equation from gemints and there is one in the dsl run that i would like to own so i will keep quiet on them for now sublimmenal message(boog powell,al cowens, roy smalley, mike vail, larry christianson, joe rudi, bert campanaris, ramon hernandez, rennie stenett,ed kirkpatrick, bob robertson, tony oliva)

<< <i>jackstraw, looks like he has his eye on the bull, too! Good for gemint, not so good for you
A lot of people have been inquiring about that card. I'll miss it when it's gone but a strong final hammer price will soften my pain.

Excited for John and curious to see the hammer price
As a Luzinski PHAN, I cannot seem to find any raw or graded PSA 8 - I will though, I just have to look harder

Dang, that Bull is a tough card, though.

I just hope that Lafayette43 doesnt have the PSA 9's that I will be getting!
2 of of my Luzinskis should bring 8's or maybe one 9, the other one is a 7.
