We broke down & bought a box of Upper Deck. After finally getting our redemption problems with them fixed, we thought we give them a try.
Here are the pulls from our box of 03-04 Black Diamond; glad they brought this product back. We both like the look of it.

Base cards had 11 dups; they still need to work on collating.

Yzerman is still kicking along real well. He is the 5th leading scorer
for the Red Wings & still commands alot of respect when he is on ice.
Truly one of the best!

Wow.. thats one of the best BD boxes i have seen. Gotta love the Brodeur jersey, Fleury Quad rookie, and the Yzerman Clarity... and then to top it off... the auto.

Fleury is still fairly hot. Good thing he doesnt play for detroit.. or he would be injured for 1/2 the season like Hasek... dammit...lol

Be honest though, this team has a ton of talent. Even with all of the injuries and bringin' up guys from Grand Rapids, they just keep chuggin' along...

Fleury has awesome potential; he is just very young & needs more seasoning. They let him play in the world Juniors just a couple weeks ago & he played well, even tho the US beat Canada on a fluke goal.
Rumor has it, he'll stay with the Penguins a few more weeks & then he'll go back down to the junior ranks for more conditioning. Our feeling is we'll be seeing alot of him once he gains more knowledge.
The goalie that is really coming into his own this year is David Abeischer of the Colorado Avalanche; he has more than filled in for Roy with hardly any downturn. Playing behind Roy all that time sure looks like it rubbed off on him bigtime. GO AVS!!!!

This really was one of the best boxes of cards we "ever" opened from Upper Deck. They just seem to be so hit & miss lately with thier product line, collating, customer service etc......
We are only buying products of thiers that have either no or very few redemptions; we are NOT going thru all that again with them no matter how many new staff they claimed to have hired.

Well.. i dunno.. i cant complain about their redemptions.. i got my Dan Hamhuis SPx rookie in under 2 weeks.. so i am pretty impressed with that.

Well, just maybe things are getting better at Upper Deck. It took us 1 week short of 1 YEAR to finally get our redemption from them. That was even with the help of a manager who worked at Upper Deck.
He was so embarassed by the whole thing, that to this day he still sends us greeting cards with special Lebron cards in them.
He also wrote us a letter explaining how Upper Deck was going to fix
the ongoing problems in different areas. Just goes to show you, there is always hope!

Who did you hear the Jr. Rumor from?! he Can only go back to the AHL he cant come back to the QMJHL (or Halifax where he played last year) because once you have 11 games with an NHL your stuck either with the bigs or back in the minors cant go back down to Jr's tho. That's just an FYI.......

The $1M base is much better than the potential $3-$5M in incentives. His incentive clauses are easily attainable too, so they'll have no choice but to return him to Cape-Breton.

The rumor was talked about amoung some of the hockey nuts on ESPN & also saw it mentioned on a couple of hockey boards.
It's not the only time a team has done this; look at Detroit, they are playing CuJo a huge salary while he plays in the AHL also.
As far as Fleury goes tho, he just needs some seasoning & a chance to acclimate himself to the highest level of his sport. Whatever level he can attain that added experience will only benefit him in the future.
Seems like it's easier for a offensive or defensive player to stay at
NHL level when they are as young as Fleury is; goalie is probably the hardest position to perfect at such a young age what with all the great players you have to face day in day out. Still think this kid is going to be a great goalie down the road.
We are sure happy to have pulled his Rookie Card & we also pulled his Redemption Rookie Debut card from a pack of 03-04 BAP In the Game Action series, which we should be getting next week.
This Rookie card of him could be one of the most sought after as BAP
has announced that once the deadline for redeeming has passed next year they are going to destroy any remaining rookie cards from that series & announce the #s of each rookie that was redeemed.
That is one we are going to hold onto, for sure.

btw Bob i didn't mean to sound like i was taking away from your pull i actually would have love to pull the MA Fleury BD rook as again it will prob. be one of his toughest pulls and also highest bv! Congrats to you and CJ......also with the BAP in the game was it tuff to pull rooks? because i'm looking at either a box of that or the SPx but the SPx i heard was hit and miss the card shop i go to opened a box for singles and pulled an Antoine Vermitte 6/10 auto/Jersey and a Kariya Dual jersey 25/25 but i've also heard of guys getting pretty much nothing!! And hey you Americans got lucky in the Gold medal game if it werent for defencive breakdowns in the 3rd we would have won!!!

SoDoMoJo-In reference to how tough a pull the BAP In the Game
Action Rookie Debut Redemption was; BAP said they were seeded
about "1" Rookie Redemption every 2 boxes. When we read that we about fell on the floor.
Reason being, we pulled our redemption card out of one of thier "Super" boxes they had produced for the Toronto
Show. Those boxes had 3 packs of assorted BAP products & we pulled Redemption Rookie #601 out of 1 of those 3 packs, which turned out to be the Fleury. By the way, out of that same box, CJ pulled a Jay Bouwmeester GU Jsy Autograph #8/10 out of 1 of the 3 packs of 02-03 BAP Signature that was in that same box. Needless to say, that truly was a "SUPER" box! We also got some other very nice stuff out of that box.
BAP has put together another Super box promo in connection with the Upcoming All-Star game. They are selling them on thier website for $70US. We sure made a great buy with our box. We hope there are some of those left when we get our monthly allowance for boxes next month. You might want to take a shot with one of those.

We also just saw the advance pricing for our Black Diamond Fleury
on Becketts website; it is $100.00. The regular Yzerman quad diamond is $20.00; no telling what the multiplier will be for our our Clarity Black #7/10 Yzerman will be! Awesome, just totally AWESOME! Man, we love this hobby!

That winning shot was very lucky indeed; but they all count! There is some great young talent waiting to move up & that is very exciting to see. Now if labor/mngmnt can just get together to avoid a lockout.

hahaha!! that's awesome Bob!! i might invest in one of the All Star Super Boxes!! btw i had a bit of intrest in team USA this year because one of my good Friends goes to Shattuk St. Mary's (which is a prep school in Fairbault MN.) and so i got to meet a few of the players and from that school alone there was Murry,Eves,Parise,Stafford on the World Jr. Team from the US this year!!

Both teams in the finals this year, USA & Canada, have some awesome young talent. That is very good for the future of the league
& hopefully they can prevent a lockout.
We were really upset when we found out they weren't going to televise the Jr Championship game here in the US; once again they
lose a chance to support thier young talent coming up in the ranks.

We are going to see the Thrashers & Avalanche play this Thursday in Atlanta, GA. We are both pumped to see out 1st NHL game this year. The Avs are our favorite team & Atlanta has some players we really like as well. We are going to see if we can find the Avs team hotel & get some autos as they head for the arena.
We'll let you know if we have any luck.
