Canadian experts, grade help

What would you grade this 1900 50c

I do not consider myself a Canadian expert... but it looks to be a decent original coin from the scan... my low end is F15 and my high end is VF20 and I am leaning towards the high end because I have this gut feeling the coin looks better in person.

Thanks 'kat. As long as it is Fine I'm happy. I really should buy the new Canadian Grading Guide. Perhaps at tomorrow's show.

Out of an abundance of caution, perhaps you should see what others think. I think it is a minimum of F15.

Charlton 2003 has a value of C$150. (US$115.) in FINE. I was able to pick this coin up for a lot less than that.

I'm no Canadian expert, but it's similar to many of the British obverses, obviously. It looks F to me. There is some hair detail and relief remaining. It's too worn to be VF IMO. I don't use the numbering system like my esteemed colleagues.

I think you did well. My experience is that Canadian Halfs...Victoria, Edward VII and George V were heavily circulated and finding decent examples is tough and they can be a challenge to grade. If there was greater hair separation and greater detail in some of the leaves and crown on the reverse, I think somewhere in the VF range would be more probable. I like this one and perhaps it is worthy of a submission to the TPG company of your choice. Is there any lustre in protected areas around the letters and rim? It doesn't look like it from the scan, but lustre and the general patina of a coin is tough to capture on a scan.

This one is going into my Whitman album. I'm trying to collect all the 50c from 1870 to 1967. I already have the 1937 - 1967 completed and need 13 more of the early 50c pieces. I just won the coin last night so I don't have it in hand.

I'll go along with the consensus and say Fine also. I agree with coinkat's evaluation. Btw, I'm not a Canadian expert, just a Canadian enthusiast

I bought a copy of the Standard Grading Guide for Canadian Coins by Charlton and Willey today and agree with the F-12 grade now.

The wear is even enough to perhaps warrent F-15? Reverse is really nice...
