Pat: Now wouldn't that be embarrassing - some have held me out as among the foremost authorities on 1965-1967 coinage (vis a vis SMS issues) and for me to peddle an SMS coin hiding out in a regular issue holder!! I can think of one board member in particular who would have a FIELD DAY with that one!!!
I am as close to 100% confident as one can be in offering this coin out as a regular issue. While I did not grade the coin personally and bought it on the open market, the coin appears to me to be a "no brainer" regular issue piece. If it was questionable, it would not have been offered here, but, rather, returned to PCGS for their assessment (which is what I did recently when I bought a complete set of clad Wash quarters and spotted that the 1965 "regular issue" was really an SMS - and it was thereafter changed).

he wanted to know what would be the retail selling price for a
2000 p roosie graded ms 67 pcgs ngc
2000 p lincoln cent red ms 67 pcgs ngc
thanks
sincerely michael
Hope that helps.
i try to help some younger kids at a junior coin club and they basically love all the modern coins and are interested in them and starting to put together sets
they are young under 14 so to them they are starting and to them silver kennedys are older classic coins
but i see many of the younger kids like the salbbed coins in higher grades all the moderns and they like the new mihnt producyts the buff dollars and as such
so i will tell this kid if he is going to buy one stick with 68 or higher
and i will let him know the oprices thanks
as they ask me things i cant answer and i want them to collect what they want they have to start somewhere
as these collectors hopefully will keep collecting and advance more in the up and coming years in coins
sincerely michael
There are four Dealers I trust explicitely with these "SMS's" vs "MS" counterparts. Jim Barlow; Rick Tomaska; CladKing and you. I'm sure there are others, but you four are the first I'd turn too.
I'm getting better at it myself, but the last 'batch' I sent in I missed on all three of them.

BTW, were you 100% jazzed when the 54(p) quarter in MS66 came in?
Wondercoin
Neat coin. I'll show it too you along with a couple of other toned Washingtons I've picked up over the last month or so.
We just picked up a second computer for upstairs and my digital camera is put away otherwise I'd have shot a photo or two by now.
Thanks for asking.

(But, CladKing- you CAN spot the difference between the two, right?)

AU's before they had wear there might be some question. There was a lot of variation in the
production of the SMS coins and some worn SMS dies were used to strike coins for circulation.
Above MS-65, I suppose there's little doubt.
coin. I've heard enough reports that I don't necessarily doubt their existence,
but I've never seen one. There are far more coins in circulation that have the
SMS look for them all to be from busted SMS sets. A very high percentage are
from dies worn beyond what SMS dies were typically used. Many of the SMS dies
recieved at least part of the proof treatment including basining.
The preparations of the dies and planchets were so diverse during these years
that I'd be hesitant to call any coin in any grade definitively SMS or non-SMS. In
very high grades though it seems far more likely to make the right guess. There
is a distinct look to most of the SMS coins and the nicest regular issue coins that
I've seen tend to have a different distinct look. Though again, I've never seen a
very high grade non-SMS of any denomination. (Maybe a few halfs)
I shouldda spent more time looking at rolls. I am primarily interested in quarters,
and clad rolls of these are very difficult to find and usually a disappointment.
Cladking: As you know, after you have reviewed hundreds and hundreds of high grade specimens, you begin to recognize the texture to the surfaces which differentiates SMS quarters from non-SMS specimens. No question, for all but the most dedicated MS clad quarter collectors, a beautiful 1965-1967 SMS coin in high grade will suffice for the type set, etc. , as the distinction on an MS67 regular issue and an MS67SMS can be so subtle.

The 37(d) in PCGS-MS67 matches the 37(p). We should talk about what you have in that slot - there might be a possible deal.
