What do you think of this Mercury Dime?

I bought this a few weeks ago. All the darker areas are nice color and it has good lustre. The only thing I don't like is it's in a first generation PCGS holder.Text

    I watched that coin on ebay. Just could not bring myself to pay what the seller wanted. I'm betting the colors are almost the same as the colors on my 39D Merc. To answer your question I really Like the Dime but did not Like the Price. Nice snag as not a whole bunch of those are around toned like it is.

    The only thing I can suggest is to send it in and have them put it in a newer slab. Cost like $5 + shipping last time I looked but that was some time ago.

    I just knew that coin would be pretty. My theory on Toned Coin pricing just stands in the way when some good looking coins come available. The coin is more than likely worth every penny you paid for it and probably more. Here is the 39D that I have. No enhancement here at all. This is what the coin looks like. Actually there is more color if you get the lighting correct.

    Unfortunately this coin is the one that makes me so thrifty, OK Cheap, when it comes to buying Toned Mercs. I bought it 3 years ago at a local Coin Show. When the Dealer only said he wanted $15 for it My Jaw hit the floor and the right hand was in the pocket before he could finish his statement. One Happy Camper went home that day. Got a Great Roosevelt from the same Dealer this year. Its raw but Toned just as nice as the Merc and just as good or better grade wise. Tried to Talk him down from his $12.50 price but he would have no part of it. image

    I find the luster very DULL on this one. It may be the photo of course....but if it is dull I wouldn't bother.

    Yup, I'm also wondering what's wrong with the older slabs?? I kinda like them, makes the coin antique' image, only problem I see it just don't match the current slabs so it may rattle away but I'm leary of saying anything more lest this turns into a flame thread image

    I don't like the slabs because of storage. They won't fit in Eagle albums or the NGC boxes.

    I saw that coin at a local show. You are going to like it. Much more lustrous than the scan indicates. If I was more into Merc's, that one would have never made it to Ebay. image

    Marc my coin is a 65 just like python's.

    Python here is what I use to make the small slabs Fit, not actually but they stay in one place, the NGC Boxes. Also these protect the Slab from scratching. The only slabs that do not go into these are PCGS. To make the PCGS slabs fit you have to strech the sleeve with two fingers at the top. The other advantage of the sleeves is they keep the coins Quite when you are at a Show. Does not make people look at you like you have a bunch of pots and pans in the box when you are walking around viewing coins.

    Karl Geeez maybe the Guy just liked the coin !!! I'm betting the plastic had nothing to do with his purchase. Probably the seller would have asked the same price if the coin was Raw. What do ya think ??
