Anyone want to give me their grading opinion on this 1889 CC?

This is a coin that has been in my family for many decades. I desperately want to have it slabbed but have been met with resistance. In the interim, I would like to have some idea of what it may grade.

I'd like to take a shot at this one. My Morgan grading isn't where it needs to be yet...

If I were grading it like a Sac or a Peace, I'd say high XF-45 maybe with an old cleaning?

I thin Ursabear's opinion is right on...possibly up to AU50.

Going from the pict which isn't so hot it's at least VF30 maybe XF40.

This is a tough coin to grade because either the scan is alittle rough or my eyes are failing... Without a better picture, I would suggest a range of VF35 to EF45. It looks original but I would want to see the coin first to make that determination. Overall, its a coin that is worthy of submitting for various reasons.

OH, NO!!!! SOMEBODY STOP ME FROM TELLING THE TRUTH!!!

I cannot tell a lie. As is, the coin looks like a nice original 45. HOWEVER, a good coin doctor may be able to fix it up into an AU50 or better. I can't tell you what to do with your own property, but you should know your options! Make sure you show it to an expert before deciding what to do with your coin!

.........and my forum mandated 10 second appraisal, with glasses of course, is XF40 with original surfaces. i have an 1890-CC which looks quite the same, just a bit darker with less wear and a hint of luster. got it back in the early 60's from a grandparent for Xmas.

The cleaning took place over thirty years ago, with a pencil eraser. One of my biggest regrets.

In this grade, an abrasive cleaning may not bag it totally. It's hard to tell from a smaller image, but I'd guess they might net grade it to XF. ANACS might be the place to send it, though. Or NCS for their slab if you don't want a net grade attached to it.

Looks nice in the photo, but if it has been cleaned with a pencil eraser, it will earn a body bag for sure at PCGS.

And I called it a nice 45 from the picture??? I've finally learned my lesson. No more grading coins from pictures!

(But the idea to doctor the coin seems even more appropriate now!)

Relax Andy,

Everyone knows that about the most you can do with an image is grade the "details."

No one will think "ill" of your grading skills.

Anyone want to give me their grading opinion on this 1889 CC?
