eBay comping workflow - is there a way to avoid tab clutter?
in Sports Talk
Hey guys, I've been lurking for a bit but had a question about how you all are managing your buying process. I used to spend a ton time scanning eBay for raw singles, and having to constantly have multiple tabs open just to cross-reference 130point was driving me INSANE!
I got so annoyed with it, that I ended up coding a Chrome extension for my pals and I. It pulls the recent comps right onto the screen when I hover my mouse over an eBay listing. It's been a massive time saver for us, but it made me wonder—what is everyone else doing?
Are you guys using a specific tool for this, or just suffering through the multi-tab grind like I was?
Curious to hear how the high-volume buyers here manage it. ![]()

Been chasing raw for over 20 years on eBay. No bells or whistles. Just doing what you said - spend a ton of time hunting and digging deep for deals. I use one pricing service, VCP, as a guide. Too much cross-referencing and additional resources would make my brain implode.
A gembryo is the early developmental stage of a perfect card.
eBay has a developer's API. over time it has been getting better for store management and worse for shopping however. I think a browser plugin connected to a web-service for ML interfaced to pricing source and harvest along with some basic card review from images - cursory evaluation is the way to go for automation. You can also bid that way if you are brave and trust your rules.
This should probably be in Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum. Hint. say "MBA" in the title for near-instant responses.
Agreed, you should post this in the card forum
You would definately get a LOT more info over there
Best of luck and hope you get better clarity
for many years i collected cards & unopened material. i wish i had a chunk of it back, namely the unopened goodness, but i try not to allow my mind to go there. in fact, i refuse to look up current market prices. i'd rather not throw up in my mouth a little.
but i digress.
reason i'm even yapping on this thread is because i had no idea MBA even existed until roughly a few months ago when i was wandering around aimlessly across the street. my visceral reaction was..........you cannot be serious with this. when is the subjective absurdity going to end? didn't we go all the way to China with that rabbit hole already? is it going to reach a point where number grades and stickers eventually block the actual piece of cardboard itself? to each his or her own, but imo it's nothing short of another ridiculous -- and no doubt filthy -- money grab.
i'll never forget consigning cards to PWCC many moons ago. i made some good loot doing so, but i'll be perfectly honest: i always felt a little uneasy conducting biz with them. a tingling spidey sense, if you will. idk why, but it felt like i was smack dab in the middle of a racket, but to what extent i had no idea because i didn't know the deets at the time. all i knew is that i really didn't need Brent to be injecting my card with steroids. but because prospective buyers valued his subjective visual grades more than the functioning set of eyes that God graced them with, i made out like a bandit many times over. but truthfully, i exited those transactions feeling like i just got impaled by a double-edge sword.
let's just say that when pop tarts ultimately smacked the fan, i patted my instincts on the back. at that point i really yearned for the days of simply experiencing an avalanche of wholesome euphoria every time i eviscerated a pack.
sorry OP -- i should probably be convicted of thread derailment
Ohhh I refuse to look at current market prices especially with PSA 1950's Baseball
I had Mantles, Williams, Mays, ect.. ect.. from 1954 to 1957 in PSA 7 and liquidated 15 years ago for Football and that collection would easily be worth well over 100k in today's market
Woulda shoulda coulda lol
