Preventing PCGS from making a mistake

Tracking my submission, it looks like our hosts are about to make a minor mistake in the description of a coin on the tag. Has anyone had experience or success in preventing such a mistake?

Yes, but they ship pretty quickly once the order is charged.

In the past, you could contact CS and request a hold on the order. Once on hold, there is no rush, but you can explain the issue and somebody would review. Then re-contact CS and ask them to ship the order (it seems this is not automatic!).

Unfortunately, with CS so swamped now, it's hard to get a hold of CS in time before the order is shipped, so I have stopped trying. I just contact them after I receive the order and request a FedEx tag for a mechanical error. (And at least the balance of your order is safely at home.)

Alternatively, you can send the mechanical error back on your own dime with your next submission, which I often do. You need paper forms to do this, so grab some from the next show you attend.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. They really need a mechanism where you can flag something in your submission before it hits the QA stage. I'll give contacting customer service a shot.

Unfortunately, they need a lot of things! But it seems there is no longer any innovation going on there with the new ownership. (I don't consider the new submission process/website innovation since they are worse than before.)

Agree. I filled out the CS contact form with a "Problem Order" request type from their drop-down menu. The form requires the order number, which should set a flag for them to intervene before they're on the hook for a mechanical error reholder plus round trip shipping. The coins are in the Encapsulation stage right now, so we'll see what, if anything, happens.

I had one last order, it shipped within a few hours, couldn’t get to it. Just gonna have to send it back.

I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.

    Yes but with mixed results.

In my current submission, I thought I would try something different. I included the PCGS coin number on the submission form in an effort to help identify the coin correctly. Was this a reasonable thing to do? Perhaps... perhaps not. Sorf of a interesting dilemma in trying to accomplish this for the entire order... what if you are submitting a coin that PCGS has not graded?? It has happened more than once.

In my case, there was no spec number for the coin I sent in. The problem probably stemmed from the person creating it not recognizing the medieval 4 in the date. I'm optimistic that @pcgs_social can get this taken care of.

Recently as in this year, I had a revelation as to what could I do to help streamline the submission process. And to be transparent, I submit mostly World Coins… not all are that out of the ordinary but some seem to just not have much of a following. And it is those coins that seem to need alittle assistance if that is possible. I look at the population report for the country to find the PCGS number and then enter that on the coin description/variety line that follows denomination.

Isa ran this up the flagpole and it's going to get fixed. The fix already shows up in my orders. Thank you!

Lots of time and money saved there. I suggested a more obvious way of enabling throwing up a concern on an active order, because being able to cut off mechanical errors before they get out should be worth a lot.

Wow - I had very little hope that this would get resolved. Way to go @pcgs_social !
