Retiring at 55, what day is today?
Actually, it's quite ironic. All me gutter profits went into SGOV and those have for the past several months been cashing out for physical gold. Woulda been better off holding the T-bills but at the end of the day I think I'm probably still #Winning™. Perhaps they will one day classify me as Chinese. THKS!

Shows how uniformed you actually are. When China, one of the largest foreign buyers of US debt, reduces its purchases of that debt by 45% in just five years, those that are informed are asking what will this do the purchasing power of their dollar when the US has to buy even more of its own debt with money borrowed from its own trust funds and accounts, primarily Social Security and federal employee retirement funds. This US intergovernment debt (money the US owes itself) is at roughly 20%, but will grow as the US loses it's foreign buyers of US debt. The informed are also looking at the fact that foreign central banks are increasing their purchases of gold as they decrease their holding of US debt. They are fully aware of what this does to the price of gold as demonstrated by central bank hoarding in the recent past. Central bank purchasing of gold is what has driven gold price to great gains.
Focusing on the forest instead of only the tree in front will greatly improve your vision.

thanks, confirms exacty what I posted about China's reduction in US debt purchases.
And now for the rest of the rest of the story.
"Foreign governments' share of US Treasury holdings has fallen to 13%, the lowest in 30 years"
For over a decade you and I have been on opposite sides of the reduction of foreign purchases of US debt and its subsequent affect on the dollars and the American spenders of that dollar. Ten years later the decline continues, the dollar continues to buy less for its American users and you continue to see "no problem." Likely you won't actually realize the ramifications until the US is forced to purchase the majority of its debt and you become dependent on government handouts as are a growing number of Americans that have experienced this effect.

The problem yiu see is not the problem i see. And yes, over a decade, and the world hasnt ended.
Foreigners continue to buy US debt. They are not running away. And US investors continue to buy more now that rates are higher.
The problem isnt who is or who is not buying, but rather your elected officials....ALL OF THEM.
Every one of my dollars makes 4-5c every year. Yes, each dollar is buying less, but i have more of them. Make your dollars work harder.
Who are you referring to when you say "you"?

.
Personally, I have no interest (pun intended) in earning 4%-5% per year by owning debt instruments.

Fixed it for you and the rest of those who live here but prefer division to unity.

And thats why you drive a 20 year old Saturn.

Your reasoning is faulty.
I drive a "20-year-old Saturn" for reasons that are beyond your purview.
But I am getting the most out of my investment in the car (by driving it to high mileage in spite of its flaws).
PS:

Automobiles are my other hobby. I have 14 cars for occasional use. Here is one:
Id rather clip coupons than pay registration fees, insurance premiums, maintanence and storage costs. Certainly not financial efficiency.
And now back to the OP--that you incessantly derail--millions and millions of folk love getting that interest payment deposited every month. Good stuff. Keeps the economy rolling along.
Doesnt it make more sense to pay interest to Americans rather than the Chinese and Russians?

That's a really nice-looking car. It's so fancy that I don't know what make it is.
.
You must be a bond salesman. Go ahead, clip your coupons. I want nothing to do with that.
In case you are not aware, a "hobby" is not necessarily an "investment". It is often stated that cars are a bad investment - you never get back the money that you put into fixing them up. But that is not always the case. Some that I own have appreciated well above what I put into them, although that did take quite a few years.
I wrote nothing about other people. I stated that I have no interest in purchasing bonds or loaning money. I have more important uses for my money than letting someone else use it.
Debt is building up like plaque in the arteries. That will prevent the economy from "rolling along" smoothly and indefinitely.
Thomas Jefferson was not the most financially disciplined person. but he did have this insight:
"Banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; ... the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale".

2006 Jaguar XKR ("Victory" Edition). Last year for the XK-100 body style. Supercharged 4.2 liter V8.

Bond sales commissions must be way down now. And interest rates are getting ready to resume a trajectory upwards.
I knew it would happen.
Thank you.
I thought that the body was in the style of Jaguars but I didn't recognize the hood ornament. I'm only familiar with the hood ornament that is a leaping jaguar.
Hobby is just a word we use to placate our feelings on oftentimes money losing preoccupations.
Then you know you can recall that loan at any time, as you are the fixed income expert.
14 cars!! Wow!!! You must be rich!!

Mr bond salesman,
I wrote here already, I don't really care what other people do. I personally have no interest in your "fixed income" offerings.
I have done reasonably well by investing my own money into my own endeavors, rather than turning it over to someone else (such as yourself).
A loan can be recalled. But that doesn't guarantee that it will be repaid. The counter-party (debtor) might fail to perform on their agreed obligations.
PS:
Your fishing "hobby" is a money loser. Such a waste to take a trophy fish and mount it on a plaque on the wall.
By your own logic/advice, you should give it up.
Another one of the 14:
.
You dont even know what im talking about. One can sell a fixed income investment about 1 second, and the issuer has absolutely no say in it.
Oh, but they taste so good. Id think youd be all about natural and organic.
I prefer mine.....

You wrote about "recalling" a loan. Do you know what you are writing about ?
"Recalling" a loan is not the same thing as selling it to a 3rd party.
Regardless, I am not buying what you are selling, "fixed income" or otherwise.
A person needs to eat, and so there is a need for fishing for that purpose.
My own opinion is that "catch and release" fishing and "trophy" fishing as a total waste of time and resources
(but I know some people enjoy it as a leisure time activity).
PS:
Are you building a shed, to store your little toy ?
How much does that cost, to maintain and store it ?
