1975 Topps Nolan Ryan and Robin Yount Ungraded

I have been working on a 75 raw set for a couple years now in high grade nm to nm-mt. I managed a couple more last night to bring me to the halfway point. Thankfully I have a nm-mt Yount but, fat chance I will ever get a Ryan unless I find one in a tag sale bargain bin... Look at these final numbers! They both look beautiful in my opinion.

Don’t follow these cards but in this environment I’d be looking for newly graded 6s that look like 7s and 8s of the past. That Ryan prob grades a 6, the last one sold for 150 bucks. A 7 is 305.

Many people are no longer assessing value of a raw card to what PSA potential may be. Waiting for months or years to receive a grading order has driven the raw market to heights I'd never imagined. The carryover to what IS still available in a slab will continue to make prices increase. GMC auctions, in particular, invite all buyers to participate with the element of a 30 day return policy making it easier to bid high and take your chances. I tracked both of cards shown above and will continue to look for bargains along the way, because 900+ for a '75T Ryan is kinda nuts. But, having said that, I can vouch for the majority of these high priced raw cards being bought and owned. I've sold quite a few as well.

I did a double-take on the price of the Ryan. I thought 900 would be the going rate these days for a complete EXMT-NRMT set. As other threads on here indicate, the Ryan cards have sky-rocketed lately.

GMC prices are way above market… forget buying big cards from them.

    Buy a PSA 7.

You should. They are anti-PSA. I know, I know, it's tough to swallow. But, some people think PSA is FBS. Feel free to interpret the initials.

The Greg Morris premium for sure. I agree with 80sOPC: a nice newly graded PSA 6 would offer more value.

I’d bet a large number of these GM cards are just that, formerly graded cards.

You might lose that bet. You might be correct, however, if you speculate that some of the raw cards were once rejected by PSA or another 3rd party grader.

I get that, and understand why some collectors might not want to crack a slab, but if I was collecting raw sets I’d buy a nice 7 for 350 and crack it for my set. I’d bet a large number of these GM cards are just that, formerly graded cards.

The OP said he may never get a NM Ryan because they are 900, they are in fact 150-300 if you don’t mind busting open a slab.

I actually l do look for the 6's and 7's that look like 8's and have cracked a few for my raw set. I actually cracked out a Schmidt and Brock HL that I bought moons ago for dirt cheap. I love the way the set looks like in a binder.

900 for that raw ryan is insane to me. at some point people will realize that just because GM sold it doesnt mean it is some sort of "super" card

Five years ago it would have been insane but nowadays with PSA 10's going for moon money people are going to gamble.
