That card is way overdue for getting the respect it truly deserves
agreed. the 51 bowman is micks true rookie and should be valued higher
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
It will always be the red-headed step child to the 52!
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
Not even a minute do I buy the whole buh buh buh I'm a man-child japery - Me (2025)
Nothing wrong with being a bridesmaid in this case…Mantle’s 2nd most expensive card for a given grade!
As the 52 soars higher and higher out of reach, the 51 from a lower price standpoint, becomes more appealing. Regardless of attractiveness.
I have always preferred the ‘51. But have never bought either.
I like that the ‘51 Bowman Mantle RC card can be tied to a spring training photograph in 1951. Here is that photograph taken on March 5, 1951 in Phoenix, AZ used for his RC card...and my copy.
51 Bowman Mantle isn't really a sleeper.
‘51 Bowman Baseball has a great artistic presentation. Always a favorite.
For those who might not know?
In '51, Mantle was sporting #6 with the 1951 American League Golden Anniversary Patch; then I believe he was booted to the minors and returned only to have that number be given up (Bobby Brown?) - so they gave him 7.
