It is a much known issue and not all taht scarce,
I ask you how many of you recognize this coin.
If you do recognize it, please tell why.
It is on MM's CD.

I am not familiar with most Canadian coin varieties.
But that one looks like a casting (replica).

The '48's have been faked for the last 50 years and that looks like one.

thank yiu all. I am aware of the forgery.
It is even listed in Mikey Marshalls's fake CD.
it weighd 18.2 grams.. 5 grams less than a real one.
Ionly posted it to show other NOT to ebem buy it when offered.
However, I am wondering what metal it is??
it was originally purchased in a winnipeg coin shop together with the rest of the $eries (which is authentic) by a member of the german armed forces in Winnipeg manitoba when he was stationed there at thr AF training facility.
the coin is on loan to me to get it evaluated, as as the owner was sure it is authentic. Now he has doubts.
I trieded to convince him otherwise.
The greatast givaway is the 2nd L, the weight the cast appearance.
Just the overall look has the PRoC appearance.
    it is too bad...

I have seen many 1948 counterfeits and one thing they all have in common is the thick L in dollar and
there is no EH initial below the rear of the canoe. These are sure signs of it being a counterfeit.

Looks like it is plated. Is it magnetic?

Thanks for all of you participating for the benefit of other readers
    !948 fakes:
not all have the thick 4
some have the thick 4 and partly thick 8, others have different markers issues like
the 4 diagonal line being straight leading from noon to about 7, but has a slight curve
others have ear and nose problems and numerous other markers.
this one is amongst the first one showing up years ago in the 80ties I believe
it may be plated, probably is. wondering what medal? maybe tungsten, but tungsten is magnetic the plating is blistering like rust of some kind.
I have seen this "issue" without being plated. just as a grey dull metal.

IT is NOT magnetic at first try. A very strong magnet will detect a very, very slight attraction, so minute that the small but strong magnet will not fall off the piece.
    Weight is 18.2 grams
    diam is 35.7mm
    thickness is 2.36 mm
    edge is flat not reeded

Will keep this one for educational demos at the Nanaimo and Port Alberni club, as well as in September in Victoria at the Victoria coin show.
