1859 M-NY-180 Merchant token, John K. Curtis, the "Antiquary." NGC MS64RB PL, $600, shipped
The pictures do not do this one justice. Very lustrous in hand with a lot of red, deserving of its proof like designation from NGC. One of those iconic pieces collected by many outside of the traditional coin community. A gentleman in a tricorn hat peers at his collectibles with a loupe in his hand and a coin in the other. "A real antique, but alas! It is indecypherable." (sic) So emblematic of our hobby!
If you've ever wanted a nice one of these, here's your chance. They get scooped up rather quickly. There are several mules, but this John K Curtis reverse is the original die pairing.

Neat piece. That sans-serif font looks very modern on a piece from 1859. The Victorians liked serifs on their lettering.

George Hampden Lovett created this one, and serifs were not his thing. If you look at aome of his other pieces like the Witch medal "We All Have Our Hobbies," you will see similar font.
