Engelhard 3 Oz Ingot Sells for $5,856 at Heritage

I was following this item (Lot 3917) in the March 26-28 US Coins Signature Auction #1391 at Heritage. It hammered at $5,856 including the buyer's premium. Someone did well with this consignment as I would have thought the extruded 3 oz types would sell in the $2,500 to $3,000 range.

The very low serial number had to help.
Low serial cannot hurt but none listed at Allengelhard are numbered higher than 1001. Allengelhard as usual has some excellent pricing history, quoted below:
