New collector – would appreciate opinions on these coins

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased four Chinese silver coins online, but I have not received them yet.
These photos are screenshots from the seller’s listing.

As I am still new to collecting, I would really appreciate it if you could help me share your opinions on their authenticity.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

I wouldn’t buy any of those except from a reputable dealer AND certified.

There’s probably more fake dragons than real ones.

My first impression is modern counterfeit for all of them.

I concur with the two very knowledgeable posters above, and would only add that I’d hate to see any new collector get discouraged by material like this……

I like the patina/look of some of what you’ve posted, I’d be looking for coins like these in NGC or PCGS VF/XF/AU holders. Get a few of those, study them, and then you’ll have a lot better feel for potentially purchasing raw material down the line.

    Welcome to the hobby!

One thing you might reveal is whether you know what the current price for these are and whether you paid below that looking for a bargain -- that's usually a really bad decision.

I would not automatically condemn them, although the probability that some or all are counterfeits is fairly high.
But the pictures do not indicate the usual obvious counterfeits.
Much higher-resolution images (or better yet, an in-person examination) would be necessary to know for sure.

I have this sneaking suspicion that said “new collector” knows exactly what they are.

Agreed that I wouldn’t touch Chinese material like this unless TPG certified and from a reputable source. Way, WAY too many modern counterfeits out there.

And I’d be on the lookout for counterfeit TPG holders as well.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
