Topps Super Action Photos

Quite often when I examine cards, I will come across a card described as "Super Action" with a photo of a player or players doing nothing of the sort, just some innocuous movement that appears rather boring. Topps obviously didn't put a lot of thought or effort into producing their cards in the early 80s, but this one card stands out, so I thought I'd share it and maybe some others that I find along the way. I love Super Action that is actually SUPER, like this 1981 Topps #498 Al Baker of the Detroit Lions, who led the NFL in sacks with 18 in 1980. Another great wipeout defender whose nickname was Bubba, here he is wiping out a helpless quarterback back in the old days when yellow flags would not have been littering the gridiron over this hit after the ball was released. Or maybe they did. I wasn't there. But, what a frikkin hit! I miss football!!! ![]()

P.S. Bonus points for the first person who can name the helpless quarterback. ![]()

Mike Rae. It still bothers me that the logos were airbrushed away for over a decade.
The John Jefferson card from this set is also actual Super Action.
This is my all-time favorite in action card…
