Part of the concept of 90% silver coin is the divisibility and ease of use. It could come in handy when bartering during a financial market or banking "freeze"..... esp the dimes and quarters for smaller transactions. Every household should have some. Everyone appears to be in a "rush" to get rid of it......because refineries cannot handle the current bottlenecks. What will the refineries do for you in an extended banking holiday or market freeze up? Could never happen right?

Apparently China is creating twice as much "liquidity" than the Fed is pumping out. The rapid rise in metals could be a sign that all countries are using fiat to acquire real stuff. Chinese and Indian representatives are approaching miners to buy their unrefined metal at 10%-15% over the usual price. Might we start seeing Chinese shops offering "cash for silver" in the US?

Selling junk/melt silver? Consider finding a local coin club and auction it off. A couple of dollar minimal fee for the club. The rest is all yours! Most all bid lots sold, go for over daily melt value.

Be prepared for offers of $15-$20 back of spot.

40x is the equivalent of $56 silver. Is that the "real" price of silver?

It's the real price of 90% junk at the moment. Some shops aren't even offering to buy it, refiners still don't want it so yeah reality seems to suggest $56 is the market. RGDS!

I went into a local shop yesterday (a grocery store), and the coin star machine wouldn't even pay me 1x times face value for a silver dime. So that means the "real" price of silver is zero, right ? It should be free for everyone !

I reviewed a collection today from a local man and offered him 90% of melt on two 3 piece sets, one gold, one silver coin, but I couldn't bring up any recent sales on these on ebay. He said a local shop offered him 2/3 of melt.

Is it stupid to pay $1 for something you think is "worthless" ?

    PS:
I recently bought fifty 40% silver Kennedy half dollars at an estate auction for 75 cents each.
Some dealers were not buying them at all. Does that mean they are worthless ? NO.
I sold them at a local coin show for $11 each (22x).

Even you don't think it is "worthless", as demonstrated by your claim that you recently paid for some.

Right, not worthless to me, as I will use it to stir my venison stew. Has utilitarian value. But worthless to a dealer as he wont buy it.

You know how hard it is to find someone who needs a spoon to stir their stew?

According to these threads, silver has a value of somewhere between $45 to $80. Or maybe zero if you have scrap. You guys ever ask yourselves, "What kind of market is this"?

Junk buyers seem to be taking it in the shorts so to speak. No buyers, and not even the refiners want the garbage. That is evident due to the offers way under melt. Paper gutter is the real deal in this market. paper = $78, physical = $56. Of course, the physical price fluctuates depending on if you are the dealer or the seller. Still, quite the spread, THKS!

Refineries are making money hand over fist buying at 10% back and selling at a premium. With all this money and credit they have leveraged themselves so they can continue to make money in the future. They have only so much storage and so much credit so they can't afford to increase their risk buying more. There are still buyers but they are more selective now. It's the same people selling at a steep discount who were paying steep premiums just a year or two ago. At $30 they were paying $36" and now at two and a half times the price they want to sell at $60 because this is what most people do; they buy high and sell low even when they have a profit. Instead of picking up nice AU mercury dimes or VG barbers that will sell at huge premiums if the price drops they are selling at discounts.

This is simple: Sell what's hot and with the largest premiums and buy what no one wants and at discount.

I'm selling lots of silver at premiums and buying some at big discounts. New guys can't do this but once you have a little of everything you can.

The Chinese aren't likely to start buying here but they will use jobbers to buy. Of course I'm assuming the price will go up but even if it doesn't you can be certain the Chinese refineries will be running full out for years and they'll have to get the silver somewhere. The silver is here.

I don't know the Chinese are increasing their capacity but the US is and Russia's buying everything. This isn't going to stop no matter what the price is. Even if we have a downturn the supply from mines will plummet but demand will not. Sometimes the future is pretty easy to predict. Of course future events can always affect how things play out.

Copilot- And you’re right: sometimes the future really is easy to see.
