SOLD ! 1936 Bay Bridge Commemorative Coin is a nice uncirculated coin with original skin that has never been cleaned or dipped.
Up for auction today we have a 1936 Oakland Bay Bridge Liberty Half Dollar uncirculated. It comes with two great original photographs of the bridge taken during construction in the late 1930's. There is also a wonderful original letter signed by H.C. Hunter, Division Erecting Manager of the Western Division, American Bridge Company. The letter is addressed to Mr. W. F. Beeman, a field engineer with American Bridge in Chicago. The letter reads as the following:
Dear Sir:
In commemoration of the opening of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, the treasury of the Federal government has authorized the San Francisco mint to strike off a limited issue of special half dollars. I am sending you herewith one of these souvenir coins because of your interest you have taken in the erection of the super structure of the World's Greatest Bridge.....
Yours very truely, (his signature)
The frame measures 14.25 x 16 and letter is 7.25 x 9.5.
The Two photographs are originals that belonged to Mr. Beeman. They were framed by the family sometime in the 1990's.
