Advanced Notice of Product Pricing Changes

Dear Valued Customer,

To maintain transparency and a positive customer experience, we are reaching out to share an important update.

Due to metals cost, pricing adjustments are being evaluated across all numismatic products. In addition, rapidly rising silver prices may result in silver numismatic products being temporarily removed from sale while pricing is updated.

We are working expeditiously to update pricing in order to maintain product availability. However, we wanted to communicate in advance in case you notice changes on the United States Mint website.

Once pricing has been updated, we will notify you. For the most current product pricing and availability information, please visit our product schedule at: https://www.usmint.gov/product-schedule/

Please note: Subscriptions are subject to pricing adjustments. Please review your active subscriptions and payment methods as needed.

Thank you for your continued support of the United States Mint and its products.

    this is what volatility does

When gold and silver move together, it signals the coming end of fiat money.

And the basic clad proof set is at $107. This and the uncirculated set have always been the items most people could still afford, until now.

What can we infer from this?

It is easier for the government to source gold and platinum..?

The government believes silver has more upside than gold and platinum?

The W ASEs were pretty much at spot, the proofs only a few dollars more. Plenty of margin still on the gold.

I think the gold and platinum coins are still available because the prices for these items are quite a bit above the bullion price. Prices of silver coins were close to bullion price (and occasionally less than spot) at the time they were withdrawn.

Silver Eagles have now been repriced (although still not available) on the Mint's website.
    HUGE INCREASE!!

    "W" uncirculated $169 (formerly $91).
    Proof $173 (formerly $95).
Same as above for modern Morgan/Peace dollars. Reverse proof sets (2 coins) now $375.
Presidential one oz. silver medals $164 (formerly $90).

I expect that quite a few collectors will be priced out of the market.

gold, platinum, and palladium are repriced every wednesday according to the published pricing grid** based upon the ups and downs in the metals' market value

**the grid can be changed out too

The Mint had Platinum available just before the New Year for less than spot 2345. Repriced up to 2895 now I see.

You will be delighted to know that the Mint's silver products are once again available. You will probably be less delighted at the updated prices.

Uncirculated Morgan/Peace dollars and Silver Eagles - $169.
Proof Morgan/Peace dollars and Silver Eagles - $173.
    Silver proof sets - $245.

Not so much priced out as realizing there are many much more affordable ways of purchasing silver coins including past issues from the USM on the secondary market. Myself, I will refuse to pay the new prices listed as long as there are so many other sources.

I wonder if the mint has started using eBay as an information source for establishing their selling prices. ;)

Judging by previous demand, quite a few collectors were assembling complete sets of silver eagles including proof and "W" uncirculated coins, purchasing new coins each year as they were offered by the Mint. Many of these collectors may not want to continue keeping their sets up to date at the new prices, and some will probably abandon the attempt and sell their existing sets.

Silver is gonna do what its gonna do without a thought in the wind about ASE collectors or any other collector.
Now, what's it gonna do? Back to 50 or up to 150? Or anything in between!!

How far does silver need to drop before the Mint lowers their ASE prices??

  • pmh1nicpmh1nic Posts: 3,482 ✭✭✭✭✭

How quick will the Mint reprise downward given the drop in price today?
