What are your thoughts on Platinum and Palladium?

Gold and silver seem to be getting all the attention. Platinum is moving fast now and so is Palladium. Are there any fundamentals to justify this or are people just chasing the precious metals?

I think it is a little of both. A rising tide lifts all boats, however, EVs are falling more out of favor and platinum and palladium are necessary for catalytic converters.

Net-zero is facing significant risks of being abandoned as some countries are prioritizing energy security over a global policy. Forgetting platinum for a moment, palladium and rhodium were thought to be on their deathbeds (80-85% automotive combustion engine application) just a few months ago. Not as dependent on autos, platinum isn't at as much risk. But recent policy changes have lifted all three of these PGMs. Substitution of platinum for palladium can continue and should keep the Pt price greater than Pd. But don't forget Rh, its use for scrubbing NOx emissions is unique amongst the three and not easily substituted. Hybrid vehicles may take market share away from BEVs. Rh is still in deficit despite falling from astronomical heights just a few years ago. But from an investment point of view, who makes Rh bars? I don't think anyone still makes them. Most of the Baird or Pamp bars were likely melted. I would not be surprised to see Rh get back into the teens

EV's in the United States at the moment are falling out of favor but not worldwide.

Look at their trading ranges today, several HUNDRED dollars or 10-20% on each one.

Platinum has kicked it into high gear. It is up over $165 this morning as I type this.

Those 1997 - 2008 proof fractional platinum eagles were a lot of fun to collect!

If you happened to sell today, you can now buy some Proof Platinum Eagles from the Mint for more than $100 under spot. I think that they'll probably change their price on Monday.

And Scotsman in St. Louis is currently buying them at around spot. Crazy times is right.
