Scotland: ca. 1280-1286 silver penny of Alexander III, second coinage

Crusader States (Cyprus): ca. 1324-1359 silver gros of Hugo IV

France: ca. 1380-1422 gold Ecu d'or of Charles VI, from the Lucerne Abbey Treasure (100 Years' War)

England: ca. 1431-1432 silver groat of Henry VI, from the Reigate Hoard found in Surrey

German States (Frankfurt): 1495 goldgulden of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor

Lithuania: 1550 silver half-grosz of Sigismund II Augustus of Poland, Vilnius mint

    The Cypress example is an attention grabber. I like it.

    This morning the TCM cable channel ran the 1933 film "The Private Life of Henry VIII" with Charles Laughton.

    The Polish coin has amazing character. The knight and the bishop on there are quintessentially medieval looking.

    Just so happens I mailed that one off yesterday as a holiday gift to my oldest numismatic friend. He’s a dealer and a very advanced collector, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to like it.
