I'll bet it does since the last one was over $15K four years ago.

no it is not, but it is not everyday that you see a pre 75 bb wax tray for sale.

🤣 Someone give me odds. If I get +350 or better I may be interested. Then if I win I want those discounted eBay gift cards.

Heck, supposing I wanted to sell off a very rare and valuable item, I'd be shouting from the rooftops.

  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,592 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hang on let me get a pen and paper.
Let’s see it says .10 cents per pack on the label. I see it’s unopened. Umm I , 2, umm 3 packs. That’s something like. Um what state are you in? Um hmm .30 cents out the door. Final answer

  • gemintgemint Posts: 6,252 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wow, I can't believe the last one went for $15k. Makes me sad I passed on the 1-of-a-kind 1961 wax tray that sold for around $16k about 7-8 years ago. I wonder what that one would go for? I'm also curious what my 1963 rack pack would sell for after the post-covid run-up in prices.

This one will take me days. Pass

  • craig44craig44 Posts: 12,580 ✭✭✭✭✭

my goodness is that a nice tray. there cannot be too many of those left. I find it interesting that REA mentions the possibility of high grade cards in the packs. as if anyone would ever purchase that tray to rip.

Just stop bidding on it please so I can win at the current pricing.

    Thanks

I remember about 15-17 years ago, BBCE had one on their site for $5700 or so. I still regret not pulling the trigger back then though at that time 5K+ was a lot for this tray.

I have a couple 74 trays (one with each wrapper variation) which is another really tough year to find.

I've always been a huge fan of wax trays--sort of like FASC in miniature.

yep, I know who bought that one and it is not the one up for auction.

Looking for 66 and 69 OPC baseball
    60's OPC packs
    72 BB, 60's FB, 71FB, 73FB, 74FB, 75FB, 76FB, 78FB Rack Packs

I do know whose tray the REA one is (not mine). It was purchased at the National.

Welp. You made me open mine. I would guess it only had about .29 cents worth of cards. Only star card was #33 billy Martin not sure but I think he was mad at me for opening it.

I dont understand? 15 grand for just 3 wax packs? Have 70's wax packs gone that far up in value?

it is all about the packaging on this one. very little to do with the actual cards. SUPER rare to find one of these intact.

This makes me think of Brewster's Millions, when he buys the rare stamp and mails it to the guy monitoring his spending.

I get the draw, somewhat, but I'd need to have a 7-8 figure bank account minimum to even consider buying things like this. The only real unopened that I own contain Steve Garvey cards showing on front or back and maybe a small box of random stuff I have accumulated and somehow avoided the urge to open and now enough time has passed that I don't have a real urge to open it any longer.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

It becomes art and you have to look at unopened stuff that way.

I suppose if we are talking Bezos or Musk type money, then sure, they could open without a second thought. certainly for the average (or even above average collector) this is an item to remain unopened.

while i dont personally collect unopened, I appreciate it. It would be a crying shame if someone were to unwrap this tray.

Someone on eBay that sold a lot of movie memorabilia had a "pack" of 1967 Topps cards that was going to be used in the movie but they later decided to use the stamp. It wasn't a factory sealed pack but I think they were going to have him open the pack to burn money. Even back then, unopened packs were the bomb.

In the end, it came close to the previous sale price of 18K, but feel short at about $16,500.

I am a bit surprised that it fell short of the previous high. things have been running up this year. I figured it would top $20k.

That is true in general but 18K was a bit crazy last time.

It also has much lower breakup value :)

if another 1 or 2 is discovered going is will drop as no longer 1 of a kind.

There are others out there. But they are very rare, similar to 1974 trays. Highly doubtful any surface in quantity at this point. Though it would be cool to see it.
