Which card should I buy?

-Both of these options are in the same price range but somewhat different types of cards.

Option A: 1989 Fleer Ken Griffey Jr RC autograph PSA 9/10

OR

Option B: 1982 Topps Traded #98 Cal Ripken Jr RC PSA 9 (centered)

Which would you guys prefer for the future in terms of adding 1 of these cards to your collections? Curious to hear what collectors think.
And hoping to get some clarity on what I should buy lol

    Traded ripken gets my vote.

Personally I think autographs are just ink on cards and should get a MK notation 😁

Agree with coispacks - Ripken all day plus I'm not a fan of autographs.

Investment? Griffey Jr. autos are golden.

I would go for Ripken as well.

What would be of concern to me would be the Griffey autograph fading as the years go by. If you were holding long term. But his auto is one of the best around based on readability.

    Griffey

Get the Griffey now while his auto is still pristine and go shopping next time for Cal (whenever you have funds).

Close call but I may go for the Griffey. Especially since he's a real tough auto to get outside of a paid signing. But then again, I would chase the 89 Upperdeck signed over the Fleer.

    Ripken

are you buying for your collection of future appreciation?

If for your collection, just buy the card of the player you liked more.

if for appreciation, I would go for the Griffey. Autographed rookies seem to be the "in" thing right now. 100 years ago when I first started, it was a big no-no to have a rookie signed.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I'm not much of an autograph collector, so I would grab the Ripken. I prefer the card design and photo of the Ripken as well.

  • Both are alive and kicking, signing plenty....Ripken's best RC IMO outside of his minor league orange variation is the Traded Topps '82....Griffey's Fleer issue (Non-Glossy) isn't in the top 3 of his RC options IMO... I'd go Ripken given the centering is solid..
