Canada 1912-14 $5 & $10 gold

I've recently retired the #1 All Time finest set, the "John J Basso Legacy". Each coin was at or near the top pop, with the highlights being a 1912 $10 in MS65, and a 1914 $10 in MS66. 5 of the 6 coins were from the Canadian Gold Reserve so exhibit spectacular lustre. The set can be seen here:

Sandy Campbell at Proof Positive Coins has graciously bought the set, so he would be the one to contact if anyone wants to upgrade their own sets.

    That’s impressive!

I have five of the six coins, all of mine are MS 63. It’s been hell trying to find the 1912 $10 in the original hoard holder from PCGS.

    The search continues

I agree the 1912 $10 are the hardest coins to find. My MS65 was NOT a Cda gold reserve, but my 2013 purchase was a MS64, There were very few 1912 $10 for the premium sets (140) and many probably have not been graded by PCGS yet.

Should I ever find it, it will be very rewarding after the hunt, I’ve been looking for about two years now…

I really love those coins. The six coin set is just charming!

Thanks to the OP for posting. Great set.

I just bought his 1913 ten dollar, which looks like a terrific coin. So often, even high-grade pieces come with a lot of chatter in the fields, but not so with this 1913. Completes my ten-dollar set at 1912 (65), 1913 (65) and 1914 (65+).

I was fortunate to handle hundreds of those Canadian Bank Hoard gold coins and the 1912 issues are by far the toughest to find. I own one of each of the 1912 $5 and $10 and they were the last coins obtained from that group for me. Your former set sounds amazing and I will check it out.
