genuinely curious what everyone's take on him is. a lot -- and i mean a LOT -- of people are ripping him for his style, especially after yesterday's game. i just cannot distance myself any further from those types. i freaking love the guy. Little Sisters of the Poor could be playing and if GJ was on the call, rest assured i'd get excited at some point. the guy brings the energy to the point of almost losing his voice and i can't get enough of it. i couldn't have cared less about Indiana & Penn St. yesterday, but i was on the edge of my seat and completely riveted the entire 4th Q, and that was in large part due to his commentating. it felt like i was being sucked into a vortex of electricity the last two minutes of that game. when Cooper made that catch and GJ started speaking in tongues, i damn near had an out-of-body experience.
wanna slip me into a coma instead? force me to listen to someone like Collinsworth, Romo, Brady, or Aikman. i simply cannot understand how someone can have a problem with Johnson, yet they're ok with guys like that who provide no redeeming value outside of reducing your IQ over the course of four quarters.
there's my dos centavos on Gus. where are yours? just right? over the top? indifferent?

I’m so ancient and out of the mainstream when I saw the title of the thread I thought of the NBA player Gus Johnson who I remember from my youth.
So I’m not much help, I’m still trying to figure out what momos are.
All I want in an announcer is for him to talk about the game and shut up about his personal life, where they’re having dinner after the game etc.
Except for Denny Matthews’ theres never been anyone noteworthy for me.
I gave my opinion about him in the college thread, the guy is the best for me. He announces a game like a fan. Sure, maybe he gets a little over-excited sometimes but that's what fans do. It's a pleasure for me when he's announcing a game I'm watching.

Gus is definitely over the top. His partnership with Joel Klatt has made for some great game commentary plus the rah-rah!
He’s a little over the top in my book. He gets stuck on his Gusisms and overuses them to the point of annoyance. The “world famous” Ohio State Buckeyes. The “Big Zamboni” for Andy Kotelnicki last year (before he pooped the bed this year as PSU OC). His excitement is definitely catchy, but I could do without the repetitive attempts at getting a nickname to stick.

He's great for college football.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
