If you had a bunch of dental gold that had a net of 1.0 ounces of gold in it, about how much would you expect to get for your gold?

No LCS here that I'm aware of. Took 2 clean crowns [I suppose you could call it junk gold] to a jeweler/silversmithing place. I asked what they would pay if I had enough crowns to give an ounce of gold. What do you think they said?

I'll guess that it's well below melt value. :D

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

That's what I thought too. His response was maybe $3700 or whatever 5% below spot was.

    Thanks for playing.

That offer doesn't sound unreasonable considering it has to be sent away to be refined and the dealer needs to make a profit to keep the light on. Also, the dealer is risking that spot doesn't fall in the near future.

I'd say it was darn good considering some of the discussions from the past about what dealers offer for various forms of gold like 15% back for Krands IIRC.

it's as if it was an offer for .9999 , perhaps he didn't understand the weight/dental karat aspects of the question.

but to think, someone could be walking around with a tooth ring if he's got such plans.

Possible he misunderstood, but I did mention it would need refined and he pointed out that gold coins don't need refining. He said they work on a 5% margin. I got $222 for my 2 used crowns. Pretty sure he wasn't born last night.

By chance I asked my dental office what they charge for gold fillings and they said it is $1000 each. It sounded like they almost never do them though at that price level.

My estimate for a 4 piece replacement bridge is around $5300. 2 implants is about $2K less.
