Bonds
Clemens
Delgado
Kent
Mattingly
Murphy
Sheffield
Fernando
My prediction:
Either Murphy or Mattingly will make it. I don't think both make it but one will. Going to depend on who is on the voting committee.
Clemens will make it.

If I had a vote, it would be hands down Murphy. And strong consideration for Mattingly and Kent.
Bonds Clemens Kent (since he was a 2nd basemen) all deserve to be in. I think Sheffield should be in as well
The composition of the committee will definitely play a huge role

i think bonds and clemens should already be in but if they get in then all of the other players that have been acused of steriods like rameriz, palmerio and rodriguez should also get in. also if the committees let in all of the players what will writers think.
@1948_Swell_Robinson I think both Mattingly and Murphy.
king4aday... I would put Bonds and Clemens in this time around.
Murphy and Steve Garvey are long overdue.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!
Ohio State Buckeyes - National Champions
greatest pitcher and greatest hitter since integration. both should already be in.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Even though they arent on they list all three of them should be in as well

For my own view. Getting in via committee just doesn't have the same "ring" to it as getting in by the writers vote method. Kind of like a consolation prize,an after thought.
If you consider who is on the committee vs who the writers are.. whose opinion do you value more?
Eh, I think the pro's who actually played the game have more knowledge. I dont trust writers.

I suppose writers and those who played the game play favorites. So a definitive selection process either way have their built in faults.
I have wondered if players replaced the writers in the selection process how different the HOF might look.
This is one of the few times I see a list of potential. HOF'ers and would be fine with all of them getting in
the system is flawed. it can become a glorified popularity contest.
or, conversely, an "un"popularity contest for players who where disliked by media or other players. (see Schilling, Curt)
perhaps there should be some sort of hybrid election process that would include votes from sportswriters, former players, fans and some sort of statistical measure. I dont know what the percentages for each criteria should be, but what if it were simply 25% from each category, needing the same 75% for entry.
for statistics, I have not poured hours of thought into it, but perhaps black ink and longevity stats could both play a role.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
A lot of Red Sox fans here, so I would ask shouldn’t Dwight Evans be in the HOF?
Excellent defensively and very good hitter. Him and Will Clark are my top two that I consider HOF caliber who aren’t in.
Certainly better careers than Murphy and Mattingly.
Sad but true.

I'm a homer so I'm going to say yes but Mattingly had more dominant years than Dewey, as far as Murphy goes he was a career 265 hitter compared to Evans 272 and they both played a long time but I'd 100% put Evans in before Murphy without doing a deep dive into their careers
Evans had the most extra base hits in the 1980’s and Murphy was second. No small accomplishment when you consider players 3-11 are all in the HOF. 🍺

You know I’m a Royals fan and the only KC players in history who won 8 gold gloves were Frank White and Alex Gordon. Of course Dewey also won eight. My point being I saw White and especially Gordon make a lot of spectacular defensive plays that saved runs, just like Evans did.
Unfortunately Gordon and White weren’t good enough as hitters to make the hall, but Dewey easily was good enough.
Unfortunately its not can be has become like homecoming king and queen voting with some of the guys getting in and some that arent because they were mean to the media. Theres big gaps in how the younger writers vote and the old guard that are holding grudges but still enough of them to keep players like Schilling out over politic meanwhile voting Mussina in
I wouldnt let fans be a part of the process though. The fan votes for the allstar game theres been guys that played like 40 games and are hurt that get voted in by the fan base.
Im not sure what the right solution is other than to start taking away votes from some and we can start with the guy who bragged about voting for no one. If someone voted for Mussina but didnt vote for Schilling they should lose their vote as well

Of all the players eligible and without a PED cloud over them, Dewey would be my first position player to put into the Hall.
Fred Lynn is very similar to Murphy. Difference is Lynn only got one MVP because he was the victim of the worst MVP voting in history. Not only did he not win it as the best candidate...he finished fourth.
I give the edge to Lynn over Murphy as the player though. I think Lynn's defense is not captured by the defensive metrics properly. If there is one candidate to exemplify the 'eye test' in contrast to the defensive measurements being way off...it is Lynn.
The HOF fixed their brain-dead drooling imbecile mistakes in recent years, and there's no position players left who get me as upset as Santo, etc. used to. There's still Schilling who, yes, only brain-dead drooling imbeciles think doesn't belong in the HOF, but no position players.
The most deserving players left are both of the Evanses, Jimmy Wynn, Will Clark, and Bobby Bonds. All of them are what I would once have called borderline HOFers, but they are so much better than other recently inducted HOFers, it looks weird that they're not in. I would also vote for all five of them before anyone on this ballot. If I had to vote for someone on this ballot, it would be Murphy.
Well said Dallas!
I would take Garvey over any of those players Dallas mentioned. What other player not in the hall has five MVP awards? He played in five World Series and was money in the big games. Has a 338 post-season BA, and a .910 OPS. Batted .417 in the 81 WS against the Yankees. I remember stars for what they did in the big games in any sport. He also holds the NL record for most consecutive games played. He was the iron man before Ripken.

Another player who never gets mentioned, is long overdue is Norm Cash.

I think Kenny Lofton often gets overlooked. great player. Imagine what his career stat line may have looked like if he could have started at age 21 or 22 instead of 25. May have gotten to 3000 hits, 2000 runs and well over 800 steals
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
The 1993 Indians team was STACKED
He went to college. 24 is realistically the first year he would have maybe been called up. He actually moved through the system very quickly. He was in high A at 23 and AAA at 24 then MLB at 25

“Imagine what” was the question. You explained how time works very well.
He went to college to play basketball on a scholarship. He still managed to play minor league baseball at age 21 and he had over 1,600 plate appearances in the minor leagues.
Being a two sport athlete certainly cost him MLB time. Even the 1,600 minor league plate appearances were unnecessary and cost him MLB time.
It was a hypothetical. Lofton was certainly ready for the show before age 25. his rookie season he amassed over 6 WAR.
Similar to Boggs getting such a late start. Or Molitor not missing 5-600 games due to injury.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
And he didnt show anything in the minors until his age 23 season which is why they skipped him from high A to AAA and didnt make him go to AA which was very unheard of at the time he was playing. He got the September call up that AAA year and wasnt good but got traded to the Indians in the offseason and was starting the next year
Fire AJ Preller
His minor league stats really didnt suggest he was ready before 24 and he was only playing in A against a bunch of 16-18 year olds for the most part.
I like the what if Andruw Jones didnt get fat, he was the best CFer for a decade than stopped caring I guess. Or if Trout could stay healthy? Bo Jackson not getting hurt.
I dont really have a problem with how Loftons climb to the majors happened and there is logic behind it as opposed to a lot of the blatant service time manipulation attempts we see today
Fire AJ Preller
Gimme Norm's teammate Bill Freehan first.
What if the Tigers owner wasn’t the founder of little Cesar’s pizza and had paid Miggy in US dollars instead of pizza pies?
What if Mantle hadn’t torn his ACL in 51?
I dont think his child support payments and divorce was paid for with pizza, but yes he got fat too
Fire AJ Preller
Bring serious for a minute, you mentioned Trout and it is unfortunate with all the injuries he’s suffered throughout his career. Here’s some numbers that put his missed time into perspective.
This year he played 130 games which is very good for him compared to the last several years. But he only had 106 hits which brings his career total to 1754. So he needs 246 hits just to get to 2000.
With his history he’s not even a lock to get to 2000 base hits. Who would have thought before all the missed games that Trout would have any trouble at all just getting to that milestone? 🤔
Seriously. After his first few years I would have expected him to have gotten there years ago and have been a threat to the HR record. He looked like one of those guys that was going to be a 3000+ hit guy and 600/700+ HR guy. Im not even sure hes going to get to 500 HRs at this point

another strike against sports writers is this little tid bit i recently learned about Tom Seavers HOF vote. Back in 1992, Seaver got the highest percentage of all time up to that point, 98.84%. he received 425 out of 430 votes. when he retired, he was widely viewed as the greatest pitcher of the integration era, and probably since the dead ball era. He was a "no brainer"
I read that of the 5 HOF voters (supposed experts) 3 left Seaver off their ballots in protest of Pete Rose being ineligible for Hof vote. One voter left Seaver off his ballot because of a personal "policy" that he never voted for a player in their first year of eligibility. and one voter left Seaver off the ballot because of "oversight" he didnt see his name on the ballot.
Seaver should have been the first unanimous selectee. but for political/personal reasons, he was not.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
In all honesty I wouldnt have voted for him either.
Sure he ended up with the final numbers but it took him several below average years as a stat accumulator to get there and was for the most part a slap hitting singles hitter
Andruw Jones should absolutely be in since hes in
Fire AJ Preller
Yes, Seaver should have been unanimous, but viewed historically (and ignoring the very first ballot since I'm not sure I understand how that worked), Seaver should have been the 10th or so unanimous selection. As ridiculous as not voting for Seaver on his first ballot was, there were also people who didn't vote for Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, etc. That a pitcher with 1,200 innings got the honor of first unanimous selection just raised the absurdity of the whole thing to unreachable heights.
Joe Dimaggio should've been unanimous, but it took 4 tries to finally get voted in. Proves you can't trust the writers.
