Selling a 4 figure item using PayPal

I have never sold a 4 figure item outside of Ebay. I was wondering about seller protection if I sold something by receiving PayPal Goods and Services. Am I protected? What about credit card charge backs?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Goods & service protects the Buyer more than seller anymore..

Can someone give me some scenarios of what could happen?

By the way, this seems to be a reputable buyer on another board.

Should I demand PayPal FF? This guy approached me about a card. I don't really want to sell, but the offer is making me really think long and hard. It is a rare card.

Follow ebay seller protection and you will be fine. Ship securely with signature required and insure

I would only sell PayPal goods and services as a business. Friends and family as an individual. Also I believe chargeback protection is only available if you have a PayPal business account.

He mentioned PayPal. Not eBay. In case you missed it

I have zero experience using PayPal outside of ebay but based on many social media posts I've read, demanding FF is a red flag as being a scammer, both as a seller and a buyer.

If you Google, the AI response is:
"Scammers exploit the PayPal Friends and Family (F&F) option because it offers no buyer or seller protection, making it difficult to recover lost funds. This payment method is intended for personal transfers between people who know and trust each other, not for commercial transactions with strangers."

It’s a red flag I agree. But unless I know someone who knows them and can tell me they’re a stand up dude I would rather not. But that’s just my advice for myself.

Keep working at it Estil. Consider donating plasma for $30/pint, good for a '65 Ken Henderson RC PSA 8, or just go to the sperm bank.

I had a somewhat similar situation pop up recently. I dug out an old Precious Metal Gem basketball card that i am pretty certain I bought as an impulse when I was already winning other items with the same seller. It was a rookie, but one I would consider a common. I went to facebook to see if i could get an approximate value, after ebay sold searches provided nothing solid. Turns out the average going price for these was in the range of $1K+! I was not looking to sell it at the moment, but someone did reach out wanting to buy it after my posting.

After agonizing about the possibility of a charge back, a claim it never arrived, package arrives but was "empty", etc., I decided I just didn't want to take the risk of accepting an electronic payment of any kind for a card with that high of value. Even PP F/F, which he suggested as an option when I was hesitating, seems to have risks for the recipient despite it being advertised as safe. Keep in mind, I am not a regular seller by any means. Have collected and bought online since the early ebay days and in general for 45+ years, only selling small things here and there to try it out. In the end, I told the buyer I needed a check to move forward with the deal. I realize that it put all the risk on him as a buyer, but he was the one asking me to sell him the card, not the other way around.

In the end, we worked out a great solution that just happened to work out well for all. He knew/had dealt with a guy in my area who he trusted. We agreed that his contact and I would meet in person. I gave him the card, he gave me cash.

Like anyone, i don't like being ripped off. Even small amounts pisses me off just on principle. In the early ebay days, before paypal, I got taken a couple of times. It was always small stuff $25 or less, but it always stung to have some a-hole rip you off and there was nothing you could do about it.

I am not sure how i will proceed when it comes time to sell all of my stuff. Not a fan of anything outside of in-person deals and that makes it extremely difficult.

Hope this worked out for you if you moved forward with it.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
