That sucks lets go and beat LA and not play these silly games. I am from Canada I am taking for Toronto but for me if they win by not pitching to him that would tarnish their victory (if they do end up winning).

I want them to beat LA at their best!!!

Seems they are pitching to Ohtani tonight that is good.

Reminds me of the tush push controversy. Both examples are within the rules, but not popular in many circles.

they pitched to him last night, and very effectively.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Yesterday he was 0-3 with a walk.

The question is whether he has played himself out of the Hall of Fame with this performance.

Very astute since he had played himself into the HOF on Monday according to many "pundits" I listened to. The guy had a game for the ages but overall he has been unspectacular in the playoffs thus far. Take away that one game and he's hitting around .230 in the 2025 playoffs.

I listened to "The Mike Patrick Show" when they were talking about it and the inevitable comparison to Babe Ruth came up, which is actually silly. When Ruth was primarily a pitcher, before 1918, he didn't have the luxury of being used as a DH like Ohtani does. In 1918 Boston started to use him in the outfield and when he was traded to the Yankees that's where he played full time. Ohtani will probably not match Ruth's 94 pitching wins and he will probably not match Ruth's HR total of 714. The reason for all the talk is the dual use, sort of like what Bo Jackson did.

I don't really get what all the hub-bub is about. The "Designated Hitter" position(which a purist like me hates) in MLB has extended the careers of many players and even made a few. That all that's happening here, Ohtani is benefitting from being able to hit without playing in the field every day during the prime of his career. MLB might not be as physical as other sports but the length of the season and nature of the game are demanding.

au contraire! I am not so astute.

I was making a joke based on another thread on these forums about how one Mr. Mike Trout may be playing himself out of the HOF. I may only have slid into Astute's DMs here a bit in highlighting how we shouldn't amplify a player's career based on one game, series, or season.

That said.. I think Ohtani is great and he might be one of the all-time greats, and I think... this is what it was like when people were watching those all-time greats play.. you know... before they were all-time greats. So. I try to appreciate the moments and Ohtani keeps giving us some pretty spectacular ones.

Also. I heard he might start playing the outfield so that he could pitch in relief? Come on! Love it.

Will all this double duty, wear and tear, eventually catch up with him once age 30 rolls around? But I suppose he will stop the twin playing and settle on pitching or batting as his prime performance.

Last I checked HOF worthiness in ANY sort of HOF is based on your entire career's overall balance sheet. Hence why I personally insist on "career stat line FIRST" when viewing one's HOF worthiness.

Thanks for the correction Lack of homework on my part. For some reason I thought he was 26. Getting old is not what it is portrayed on TV as. Should of looked at the reverse of all the rookie cards before I sold them.

i didn't realize he was that age either until i looked it up. and that makes all of this blathering about him being the best ever rather amusing to me. the guy has had 5 stellar years. 5. i suspect his bat will eventually be dipped in molasses before he's able to churn out another 5 like that.

if someone wants to take a small sample size and extrapolate, have fun with that. for me personally, i need to see at least a decade's worth of unparalleled production before i even contemplate tossing him into the same conversation with George Herman

This is without a doubt the absolute "best it gets" until there's a game 7, elimination time in the World Series. With nothing left to play for and the entire offseason to rest/rehab it's all hands on deck. I expect the Managers will wear out a path back-and-forth to the mound.

    Let's go Blue Jays!!! o:)

What’s truly compelling about Ohtani is that I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night surrounded by my cold sweat after having a pleasant dream disrupted by the sound of Joe Davis’ voice screaming his name. 🥹

I hope the Dodgers win tonight ( I bet them )

and it goes 7 games with the Jays winning it

What an excitingly dull one-inning 6th game. Admiral Yamamoto really "snuck" up on the Blue Jays in this series with 9-hits and 2-runs in 15 innings of probably MVP work if the Dodgers prevail. Both his wins came after losses. Tonight's Game 7 all-hands on deck should be a classic.
