Nearby Evansville and our hobby always liked Donnie Baseball and now can FINALLY put a ring on it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RP19fnff_c

Of course how nice a ring it will be remains to be seen! Has it really been 30 years ago when Mattingly, despite his VERY best efforts (I think he batted well over .400 in the 1995 ALDS?) couldn't make it past Seattle, who I reckon wanted it more in the end seeing as how the fate of the Seattle Mariners depended on it...well the Seattle part anyway. And Seattle fans, don't blame Canada for still being the only MLB team without a WS appearance, blame this guy!

Larry Bird of French Lick (SW Indiana) married Mattingly’s sister, correct?

The Mariners have gone 48 years without a World Series appearance. You want to blame a former owner who had the team for 8 years (1981-1989)?

You couldn’t actually honor Don’s achievement with a photo of him or his rookie card? The man has waited over 40 years of his professional life to experience the joy of getting to the Show and you give him chipmunks. SMH

If you can have a Curse of the Bambino and a Curse of the Billy Goat and a SI cover or EA cover jinx, why the heck not? And as the Baseball Hall of Shame's Warped Record Book further elaborates, he paid the lowest salaries in baseball...he sounds like even more of a cheapskate than Home Alone's Uncle Frank! And did you happen to notice who he wanted to pick instead of Griffey? If he had done that I'm all but certain the Seattle part of Seattle Mariners would've been done for even sooner. So yes, the Mariners got the Curse of Argyros.

First off, it's the ChipETTES. Not the ChipMUNKS. Second "getting to The Show" means making the big leagues for the first time (which Don did in 1982...I could pull up that Randy Travis song/video too if you'd like! hee hee), not making the big stage (World Series) for the first time. And although (sorry Kanye) I find nothing special about the alleged "one of the best videos of all time" (it's just Beyonce and a couple of others dancing around a plain background...generic city!), I can't resist that classic joke about how you know God likes Saturn because he put a ring on it! And we've all seen those cards/photos already...why couldn't I be a little more cute and original about it?

You are correct. Baseball is The Show. Experiencing the joy doesn't come without sacrifice and pain. That was Don's baseball life until now. Please continue and enjoy your metaphors.

This one isn't mine, but it is from my generation and fits:
Pain is temporary, but GLORY lasts FOREVER. NO FEAR.

Are you talking about me? I wasn't even born yet when they started in 1977! And why are we bringing Press Your Luck into all this?
