Mint error....damage....fake????

I have this 1959 cent that weighs 1.9 g and is 1.04 mm thick x 18.34 mm in dia..
I would appreciate your thoughts about this being a mint error or man made damage?

    It is damage.
    Has been etched in acid which has removed much of the copper.

    Thank you. I believe that it was man made damage. I needed a 2nd opinion as this coin belonged to a friend who passed away couple months ago and he thought it was a mint error. His wife aske me to check it out, hoping it was worth a lot of money. So all that's left now is to give her the sad news. Thanks again and and have a good day.

    Laypeople mistake damaged coins for errors all the time; nothing surprising or sad about it. Just tell her it's a very common mistake and not to think any further about it.
