Toronto Coin Expo review

Snuck away from work to attend this show. Between the 30 or so dealers I was able to find 4 colonial portrait 8 Reales. All raw with problems and priced at premium prices. When I asked one of the dealers from Buffalo why their 1807 Mexico City covered in verdigris was $200 USD, was told it must be one of the rarer dates.

Good reminder why I stopped attending Canadian shows :)

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Even though I live only 16 miles away, I haven't been to an Expo in nearly 10 years when it was taken over by the original owner's son. It was never the same once they switched auctioneers by him. All the feedback that I've gotten from friends is that I haven't missed much

I really don't. I remember his table location, but not the name.

I have been to Toronto once. It was around 1986, I think. I flew from Denver on a business trip for the software company that I was working for at the time.

I had a little spare time and I made my way to one coin shop. There wasn't a lot to see there, but I asked to look closer at a couple coins. After I looked at them, I gave them back and indicated they were not quite what I was looking for. The person behind the counter stated in a hostile tone: "are you looking for anything other than grading mistakes ?".
    I wasn't.
    So that was that.

    Grading mistakes?

Grading coins should not be thought of or reduced to a math problem.

Especially when compared to Canadian silver dollars or Morgans 😂
