What's Up With All These One-Handed Catches?

in Sports Talk
That TD catch by Stephen Alexander yesterday was the last straw! Are those gloves being worn by NFL receivers being made with some tacky substance that adheres to the pebble-grained leather that the footballs are made of? I've never seen so many one-handed grabs since the days of Lester Hayes who used to smear pine-tar all over himself until the substance was finally banned by the NFL. These guys might as well be wearing Velcro gloves and being tossed Nerf footballs.....it's getting a bit ridiculous out there.

How about baseball one-handed catches?
What is it with all these ball players today. They all seem to catch fly balls with one hand, only the glove! No more two handed catches??? I've seen many cocky, arrogant and overconfident ballplayers catching easy routine fly balls with just the glove, then drop the ball!!
Also, Yankee Giancarlo Stanton hit a high deep fly ball the other night and just stood at the plate watching it!! He thought it was a HR!!! It wasn’t, it went off the wall!! "Then" he started to run!!! He could have had a triple if he ran!! He only got a double out of it!!! What the heck!?!? 😡😡🤬😤🤬

I'm more curious about these Asshat ball carriers dropping the ball before they cross the goaline in sure TD's
ithink it is magnets!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
As far as baseball goes every catch is one handed. The two handed stuff comes from dads coaching their little league team there son is on. There are situations you have the second hand close like turning a double play but other than some bunts fielded by the catcher the second hand is just there to be able to get the throw off sooner not to make the catch.
Any outfielder using two hands on a fly ball isnt good enough to be on the roster

Hmmm, ever when they drop the ball?

Nothing to do with one or two hands. They just clanked it. Its actually harder to try and catch a fly ball with both hands.
Youre just blocking your view. Youre still just catching it with one hand then squeezing with a second for no reason. Judge it properly and squeeze the hand catching it to close the glove. I know it sounds simple but it really is that simple

Okay, well that works for me. Thanks you for that detailed feedback, explanation and reality check. I understand it a little better now.
Can you give me an explanation for this one:
Also, Yankee Giancarlo Stanton hit a high deep fly ball the other night and just stood at the plate watching it!! He thought it was a HR!!! It wasn’t, it went off the wall!! "Then" he started to run!!! He could have had a triple if he ran!! He only got a double out of it!!! What the heck!?!? 😡😡🤬😤🤬

He had to hurry to make it to 2nd, but there's no way he was turning a ball hitting high off the wall into a triple. He should have been running out of the box coasting into 2nd.
Well, that works for me as well. Thanks!
One last thing. Since I'm here, can I ask you an NFL question?

I dont really have a problem with a player watching a HR but if its not they deserve to be made fun of. In the case of Stanton I cant even imagine what would have to happen for him to get a triple. He hurts himself all the time running the bases ever since he decided to be a body builder

Be like Trevor Lawrence. Take a snap, fall down, crawl around, don't freak out, then get up and prance into the end zone for the winning score. Just like they drew it up.
seems like it happens a handful of times every football season
it's unreal
Yep, you would think every player out there would not want to be "That guy"
But it looks cooler to drop it as close as possible lol
